Engineering Technician, Cell Qualification, Cell Engineering Tesla Motors, Inc. 24.40 - 50.40 USD paid holidays, flex time, 401(k) United States, California, Palo Alto Aug 20, 2026 What to Expect This is an opportunity to work in the Cell Qualification and R D group, which is responsible for the testing and qualification of Tesla's next-generation Li-ion battery cells and development of new cell test methods. This candidate's primary role will be laboratory test execution, life-cycle characterization, and mechanical testing. The ideal candidate will exhibit outstanding attention to detail, interest in developing inspection skills, and aptitude for electrical and mechanical test methods, which are all required to identify subtle issues that could impact Tesla's battery cell performance. The candidate will work alongside a diverse team of Engineers and Technicians to advance technology that provides sustainable transportation, energy storage and generation. This individual must demonstrate the desire to drive continuous internal process improvement methods through critical thinking skills. What You'll Do Operate battery test equipment to perform routine laboratory cell level testing, including electrical characterization (cycle life, calendar life and performance characterization), dimensional inspections and mechanical tests Manage and organize battery cell test samples through their entire life cycle.
This includes:
incoming quality inspection, cell inventory and tracking, test registration, labeling, recording results in a database, verifying data quality, transporting samples, load cells on test equipment, monitor ongoing tests Compile, organize, summarize and communicate test data to test engineers Communicate issues observed in sample, process, test or documentation to supervisor Participate in test fixture design, instrument and assemble cells into test setup Manage laboratory equipment, including daily verification, preventive maintenance, yearly calibration Identify and troubleshoot test equipment and setup as needed Support laboratory organization and maintain a clean work environment What You'll Bring Experience working with common cell cycling hardware (Arbin, Maccor, are, Bio-logic, PEC, Bitrode, AV, Gamry) Knowledge of standard electronics tools including DC meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes Experience in wiring and soldering Experience with metrology and data acquisition systems Strong interest or passion for lithium-ion battery technology Knowledge of safety hazards of working with and electrical and mechanical testing of lithium-ion batteries Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
