OpenMind exists to create the software foundation for intelligent, collaborative robotics — because robots shouldn't just move, they should understand, adapt, and work together. Our goal is to unlock machine agency at scale through open systems, shared intelligence, and decentralized coordination. We're a small, high-output team doing work that matters — and we're looking for people who want to be part of something foundational. The Role We're hiring a Hardware Technician to support the assembly, maintenance, and repair of robotic systems in our lab and in the field. You don't need a robotics background to thrive here — what matters most is that you're someone who has always been comfortable taking things apart, figuring out why they don't work, and putting them back together better than before. If you've worked on cars, electronics, industrial equipment, drones, or any complex mechanical or electrical systems, we want to hear from you. This is a role for someone who is hands-on by nature and eager to grow into one of the most exciting hardware environments in tech. What You'll Do Assemble, test, and calibrate hardware components and robotic systems Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and sensor-related issues Perform repairs and preventive maintenance to keep systems running reliably Support wiring harness repair, soldering, and basic electronics work Assist with hardware upgrades and component replacements Document issues, repairs, and findings clearly for the engineering team Follow and uphold safety protocols and operational guidelines at all times Collaborate with software and engineering teams to communicate hardware behavior and field observations What We're Looking For Required Proven hands-on experience working with mechanical or electrical systems — this can come from any background (automotive, aviation, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, military, etc.) Comfort with common hardware tools and diagnostic equipment such as voltmeters, soldering irons, and hand tools Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to diagnosing problems Ability to follow technical documentation, schematics, or assembly guides Reliable, self-directed, and communicative — able to flag issues clearly and work well with a team Nice to Have Experience with robotics, drones, UAS, or electromechanical systems Familiarity with sensors, LiDAR, battery/power systems, or wiring harnesses Background or coursework in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electronics Experience in a fast-paced startup or field deployment environment
Education:
A degree is not required. Relevant certifications, trade school training, apprenticeships, or equivalent hands-on work experience are all equally valued. If you can demonstrate the skill, we're interested.
Military Experience:
Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply. Technical training in roles such as Electrical Systems Specialist, Electronics Technician, Aviation Mechanic, or vehicle/systems maintenance translates directly to this role and will be given full credit.
