Job Title:
Calibration Specialist Job Description The Calibration Specialist ensures that all inspection and testing equipment within production and quality environments operates accurately, reliably, and in full alignment with the Quality Management System. This role focuses on routine calibration, monitoring, analysis of measurement data, and continuous improvement of inspection methods to support high product quality and operational efficiency. The position also plays a key role in maintaining organized calibration workflows, documenting procedures, and promoting a strong safety culture. Responsibilities Install new or repaired testing and inspection equipment into production and quality environments, ensuring proper setup and functionality. Perform routine testing, calibration, and monitoring of equipment to maintain accurate and reliable measurement performance. Analyze and interpret testing and calibration results to verify measurement integrity and identify any issues. Identify potential quality risks or escapes related to calibration issues and promptly communicate findings to management. Troubleshoot unacceptable or out-of-tolerance inspection equipment and determine appropriate corrective actions. Order and manage proper tools, components, and replacement parts needed to repair, replace, or implement inspection tools at point of use in accordance with the Quality Management System. Compile clear and accurate reports for facility management and other stakeholders regarding calibration activities, equipment status, and system performance. Maintain an extremely organized workflow and calibration laboratory, including orderly storage and labeling of tools and equipment. Read and understand complex configurations and specifications on engineering prints to ensure correct calibration and equipment setup. Serve as a subject matter expert in calibration principles and techniques, providing guidance and support to operations and quality teams. Determine appropriate calibration cycles and intervals based on statistical analysis of testing data and requirements of the Quality Management System. Conduct and analyze measurement system analysis (MSA) studies, including bias and related studies, to validate measurement processes. Release measurement tools to operations and maintain accurate inventory of tools, including individual tools and job boxes required for various products. Implement new techniques, technologies, or methods for inspection that support continuous improvement and pass valid MSA studies. Regularly report the status of the calibration system, including equipment due for calibration, out-of-tolerance conditions, and overall system health. Create or update quality work instructions and procedures as required to maintain and improve the Quality Management System. Participate in or lead product and process improvement projects at the discretion of quality leadership, contributing calibration and measurement expertise. Practice and promote a culture of safety first in all aspects of work, taking ownership to identify and stop any unsafe conditions in the workplace. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall quality and operational objectives of the facility. Essential Skills Strong expertise in calibration principles, techniques, and best practices, acting as a subject matter expert for measurement and inspection systems. Proficiency in performing routine calibration, monitoring, and testing of inspection and measurement equipment in production and quality environments. Ability to analyze and interpret testing and calibration results, including statistical evaluation of measurement data. Capability to determine appropriate calibration cycles based on statistical analysis and Quality Management System requirements. Experience conducting and analyzing measurement system analysis (MSA) studies, including bias and related studies. Ability to read and understand complex engineering prints and configurations to ensure correct calibration and equipment setup. Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving issues with unacceptable or out-of-tolerance inspection equipment. Proficiency in MS Office, including Project and Excel, and general computer use for data analysis, documentation, and reporting. Technical capacity and understanding of computer databases and record management related to calibration and quality systems. Familiarity with IT tools such as databases and statistical process control (SPC) systems used in quality and calibration environments. Excellent communication skills to clearly report findings, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support management decisions. Ability to maintain an extremely organized workflow and calibration laboratory, including inventory and documentation control. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills applied to quality, measurement, and equipment performance issues. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a production and quality-focused environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working within a formal Quality Management System and following established quality procedures and work instructions. Background in supporting product and process improvement projects, providing calibration and measurement input to cross-functional teams. Comfort with implementing new inspection techniques and technologies in support of continuous improvement initiatives. Ability to create and update quality work instructions and procedures, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of product quality and measurement accuracy. Demonstrated ownership of safety practices, including proactively identifying and addressing unsafe conditions. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across operations, quality, and engineering functions. Work Environment This role operates within production and quality environments and a dedicated calibration laboratory, working closely with operations, quality, and engineering teams. The Calibration Specialist regularly handles measurement and inspection tools, testing equipment, and computer-based systems used for databases, record management, and statistical process control. Work involves both hands-on equipment activities and computer-based data analysis, reporting, and documentation using MS Office, Project, Excel, and other quality-related software. The environment emphasizes organization, safety, and adherence to the Quality Management System, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and collaboration. The position may require flexibility to support various production areas and projects, maintaining a professional appearance suitable for a manufacturing and laboratory setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Jacinto, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
