In this role, you will be responsible for expertly connecting and repairing fiber optic cables in Santa Cruz County, to ensure optimal telecommunication network performance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in the field, utilizing your technical expertise and hands-on skills to support critical infrastructure projects. Your work will directly impact the reliability and speed of internet and communication services for our clients, making a real difference in the communities we serve. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works primarily with splicing and testing of Single-mode fiber optic cables, either loose tube armored or dielectric sheaths.
  • Reads fiber schematics and fiber splicing schemes.
  • Calculates fiber attenuation values.
  • Completes all service order related tasks including, but not necessarily limited to: building conversions, all plant field assignments,
  • -fiber cable assignments, Optical equipment assignments, etc.
  • Assists in fiber installation and splicing of fiber in aerial or underground environments.
  • Assists with fiber installation inside buildings in tight spaces and above raised ceilings.
  • Participates with other field techs for all cut-over and troubleshooting activities. Requirements
  • Great customer service skills
  • Clean DMV record
  • Willingness/ ability to travel between Santa Cruz County and San Luis Obispo County
  • Be available for emergency after-hours work and work in inclement weather as needed
  • Must understand Fiber to the Premise technologies based on Passive Optical Networking (PON).
  • Must be familiar with various data switches and routers line termination devices need to distribute the PON architecture.
  • Must understand fiber panels, splice closures and fiber connectors to include APC/UPC
  • SC/LC connectors.
  • Must have the ability to drive a full-size branded bucket truck.
  • Must be able to work in high spaces, in a bucket truck or by climbing on a ladder or using hooks.
  • Must know G.O. 95 requirements when aerial facilities and drop cables.
  • Must have experience in building remote equipment cabinets, included pad installation, fiber termination, equipment racking and powering.
  • Have experience in taking OTDR and light level readings to trouble shoot defective fibers and providing appropriate reports.
  • Professional and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge/skills.
  • Must be able to generate reports of completed work and provide reports of any "as-built' field deviations.
