The Position We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a skilled and motivated Engineering Technician Senior - Electrical Engineering to join our Hydroelectric Department. This role is critical in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our hydroelectric generation facilities. We are seeking an individual who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to both routine and complex maintenance activities within hydroelectric power plants. As an Engineering Technician Senior assigned to Hydroelectric, you will play a key role in assisting with engineering design, preparing and maintaining technical drawings, specifications, and estimates related to electrical facilities and plant equipment. Your work will directly support hydroelectric maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, regulatory inspections, and capital improvements. Ensuring that all drawings, field changes, and documentation conform to District standards and industry codes will be essential. This position requires a professional who is capable of performing detailed inspections of completed work, verifying that construction and maintenance activities comply with applicable regulations and established engineering practices. You will coordinate closely with field supervisors, operations staff, technicians, and other departments to schedule work, address technical challenges, and provide solutions that maintain operational readiness and reliability of hydroelectric systems. JOB SUMMARY

Perform a variety of paraprofessional office and field engineering work including planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of electrical generation, substation, communication, transmission and distribution systems; to provide supervision over technical staff as assigned; and to provide assistance to other engineering staff as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential:

Assist in the preparation of engineering design and related drawings, specification and estimates in connection with electrical facilities. Ensure that the drawings conform to District regulation and standards. Inspect completed projects for conformance to drawings, and applicable codes, standards, regulations, laws, and practices. Maintain accurate records and drawings of all District facilities. Coordinate completion of jobs between other departments and customers (job scheduling). Provide technical support to field supervisors or other departments when questions or problems arise. Provide technical support and assistance to technicians, and other areas within the District. Comply with and enforce all District rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Non-Essential:

Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be: Education Usually exhibited by a person with a Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, mathematics, economics, or a related field. Experience Usually exhibited by a person with three years responsible experience performing duties equivalent to that of an Engineering Technician - Electrical II for the Turlock Irrigation District. Skills and Abilities Interpersonal and Communication Must have ability to: establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and demonstrate good customer relations and problem solving skills. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management. Technical and Analytical Must have thorough knowledge of: fundamentals of electricity; mathematics as applied to computation in power systems including algebra, geometry and trigonometry; applicable codes and industry practices; drafting and electrical engineering methods and when to apply them; and nomenclature, symbols, methods, practices, techniques, and instruments used in engineering, mapping and construction. Administration and Operations Must have ability to: perform and coordinate engineering related activities with other District administrations, departments and divisions, and with outside agencies and customers; plan and meet deadlines; and supervise assigned technical staff. Necessary Special Requirement Possession of an appropriate California driver's license. Must file a Statement of Economic Interest in compliance with Governmental Code Section 81000.
