TEST OPERATIONS
Process Technician
  • Integration and Launch Broomfield, CO
  • on-site
  • up to 50% travel to Chugwater, WY
  • Reports to: Technician Supervisor
THE MISSION
Astra Core-X (ACX) is developing affordable and capable combined ramjet/rocket technology for the defense of the United States and our allies. We're rapidly bringing this capability to market by pairing the latest manufacturing processes and technology with solid financial backing and the guidance of world-class industry experts and research institutions. Over the past year ACX has grown from a founding team into a roughly 40-person organization standing up its own development production capability out of Broomfield, Colorado and a production/test site in Chugwater, Wyoming. We're mid-build on a production facility and targeting a working pilot line within the next year. At this size, every hire directly shapes how the company runs. Our work exists to make American service members and allied forces safer. We're glad to have teammates who've carried that mission in uniform, and we welcome veterans and transitioning service members to apply.
THE ROLE
We're moving from ground test into flight, and every campaign needs someone who owns the vehicle, the pad, and the crew as much as the test engineer owns the data. This role partners with our test engineer to plan and run flight test campaigns at our Chugwater, Wyoming test site. You'll run the safety briefings, coordinate final integration and launch operations, and lead recovery of the vehicle once it flies. On the range, you're the person the crew looks to for how the day runs and whether we're actually ready. You'll also help build how we do this. Integration procedures, launch checklists, and recovery plans are still being written, and you'll write a lot of them. We're deliberately small and deliberately fast, and we equip every team with modern software and AI-assisted tools so a lean group can run like a much bigger one.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Co-lead flight test campaigns with the test engineer, from campaign planning through launch, recovery, and post-flight turnaround. Conduct pre-operation safety briefings, enforce hazard controls and exclusion areas, and stop work when something isn't right. Coordinate final integration activities, including vehicle assembly, energetic component installation, closeouts, and pad operations, all executed to procedure with complete as-run records.
Lead vehicle recovery operations:
plan the recovery, direct the recovery crew, safe and secure recovered hardware, and get it back for inspection. Direct technicians during field operations with clear assignments, procedures, and hands-on support. Write and maintain integration procedures, launch checklists, recovery plans, and safety briefings, and red-line them based on what actually happens in the field. Perform and document inspections and buyoffs, write nonconformance reports, and support root cause and corrective action after anomalies. Keep field equipment, ground support equipment, recovery vehicles, and kits maintained and ready so the team arrives prepared. Travel up to 50% to Chugwater, including multi-day campaigns, early starts, and weather-driven schedules.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING 5-10
years of hands-on technician experience in aerospace, launch, defense, or military aviation.
Experience integrating flight hardware:
torque, mechanical fit-up, connector mating, leak checks, and working to engineering drawings and procedures. Experience leading people in the field, whether directing a crew, running a shift, or supervising maintenance operations. Comfort delivering safety briefings and holding a team to them, including calling a stop.
Discipline with documentation:
as-run procedures, buyoffs, travelers, and nonconformance reports that hold up to review. Ability to travel up to 50% and work outdoors at a remote site in all seasons. Valid driver's license. This role requires access to a controlled-access facility and export-controlled technical data. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with energetics, solid rocket motors, or ordnance, including FAA or DoD ordnance handling certification. This is highly desirable. Launch, range, or flight test operations experience, including vehicle recovery. This is highly desirable. Quality or safety background, such as QA inspector, authorized buyoff/overseer, or collateral-duty safety roles, and familiarity with
AS9100. OSHA
30, hazardous materials, or similar safety training. Experience towing trailers and operating UTVs or equipment on rough terrain. Active U.S. government security clearance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work outdoors in variable weather and on uneven terrain for extended periods. Lift and carry equipment and hardware up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Wear required PPE and safely perform detailed mechanical work.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The pay range for this role is $34.00
  • $46.
00 per hour, based on experience and scope. Full-time ACX employees are eligible for company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
Astra Core-X is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate all applicants on their merits and qualifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
