PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to maintain and repair a variety of automobiles, trucks, light, and medium equipment, and other specialized equipment. Position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining vehicles and equipment. •OPEN UNTIL FILLED
• ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs preventive maintenance functions by checking antifreeze, belts, batteries, brakes, lights, transmissions, exhaust systems, hydraulic systems, tires and safety equipment on a variety of gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment. Inspects, performs preventive maintenance and services a variety of gas, diesel, hydraulic and electrical equipment and vehicles; uses a variety of testing procedures and equipment to diagnose problems; replaces, repairs and/or rebuilds defective or worn parts and systems to restore vehicles and equipment to good working condition. Work ranges from preventive maintenance to overhauling vehicle and equipment parts and systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, tires, electric and hydraulic parts, exhaust systems, etc. Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance procedures such as tune-ups, oil and filter changes, and heating and air conditioning repair. Performs a variety of engine diagnosis procedures. Replaces parts on equipment, assists in maintaining parts inventory. Test drives vehicles and equipment to ensure proper working conditions. Transports vehicles and equipment to outside shops for repairs as needed. Performs emergency repairs on vehicles as necessary; troubleshoots equipment failures. Installs additional accessories on vehicles and equipment; fabricates, cuts, and welds various items for vehicles and equipment; installs, maintains, and repairs various pumps. Maintains the shop and assigned tools May repair and paint damaged parts on vehicles and equipment. Maintains logs of work performed and parts used; maintains equipment and vehicle records. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Operates a vehicle lift, brake lathe, welder, flush machine, air conditioner recovery machine volt and amp machine, mechanic's tools, hand tools, power tools, pick-up truck, diagnostic equipment, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Attends safety meetings. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of automotive and other equipment. Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures. Knowledge of the operating principles and mechanical repair of engines. Skill in diagnosing defects in automotive and equipment. Skill in repairing vehicles. Skill in operating a variety of hand and power tools. Skill in welding and fabricating parts. Skill in oral and written communication. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance, welding, and fabricating; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. PERFORMANCE APTITUDES

Physical Ability :
Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Sensory Requirements :
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors :
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or toxic agents.
