Job Description

General Job Requirement:
This hybrid role provides Spanish-English interpretation and translation services and instrument processing, sterilization, and room turnover. This bilingual staff member facilitates accurate communication between providers, medical staff, and patients/families in the clinical, and administrative settings as well as over the phone to ensure compliance with federal language access mandates and promote cross-cultural understanding. Responsibilities require adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational privacy and security standards.
Essential job responsibilities:
Clinical Support:
  • Assist providers and clinical staff during procedures by preparing rooms, instruments, and equipment, ensuring safe, compliant instrument handling and maintaining high environmental standards.
  • Support patient understanding of procedural steps, aftercare instructions, and clinic workflows through interpreted communication.
  • Relay provider instructions to patients and families in Spanish and English.
  • Provide culturally sensitive communication to promote patient comprehension and comfort.
Administrative Duties:
  • Provide professional Spanish-English interpretive and translation services to administrative staff across all departments by facilitating bilingual communication during phone calls, in-office interactions, and written correspondence.
  • Promote consistent, culturally sensitive communication that enhances patient understanding and supports efficient administrative operations.
Environmental Duties:
  • Set up instruments and equipment per department protocols.
  • Clean and disinfect exam and procedure rooms between patient visits.
  • Clean, package, and sterilize instruments following OSHA standards.
  • Maintain sterilization logs, biological indicators, and scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Sort, organize, and restock supplies in exam rooms, supply room, and procedure rooms.
Other Duties:
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by team lead, Clinic Manager, Administrator, or Providers.
Education:
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Successful completion of internal competence review and medical terminology orientation.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of recent experience in a medical office or clinical support role preferred. At least two years of Spanish-English interpretation or translation experience in a medical setting preferred. Experience with instrument sterilization or clinical environmental support is strongly preferred.
Other Requirements:
Maintain certifications in good standing from issuing boards.

Knowledge:
1. Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and documentation practices. 2. Awareness of cultural values and language nuances relevant to patient populations. 3. Proficiency in written and oral translation techniques, including bilingual medical communication.
Skills:
1. Strong interpersonal skills with diplomacy and professionalism. 2. Effective communication and patient education techniques. 3. Skilled in interviewing for demographic, insurance and health-related information. 4. Organized and detail-oriented in managing tasks and documentation.
Abilities:
1. Ability to learn and retain clinical procedures and protocols. 2. Ability to maintain a professional, compassionate demeanor and build positive relationships with patients, staff, and providers.
Equipment Operated:
Standard medical exam/office equipment, which may include computerized health information management system, sterilization equipment and chemicals.
Work Environment:
Combination of medical office, instrumentation area, and exam/procedure rooms settings. Well lit, well ventilated, and adequate space.
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when moving supplies. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies. Occasional stress from dealing with many staff and patients.
