Job Description
Title Mechanic I Location City of Griffin Description The Mechanic I performs preventative maintenance and diagnostics on city vehicles and equipment.
Essnential duties include:
Troubleshoots vehicle and equipment operations problems; diagnoses problems and makes repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to standard schedules. Transports tools and equipment to perform field repairs. Adjusts, repairs, or replaces parts and equipment. Maintains and repairs small engines. Delivers vehicles to dealers for warranty repairs. Attends safety meetings and classes. Maintains tools and equipment. Maintains a safe and tidy shop. Responds to after-hours calls as needed. Performs related duties. Position Requirements The Employee must have the visual ability to observe and detect dangerous obstacles, other vehicles or equipment, and pedestrians. The employee may be exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, dust, dirt, grease, and irritating chemicals; therefore, the use of provided protective devices such as a hard hat, safety glasses, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, gloves, safety vest, etc. is required. The employee will use a variety of tools requiring a high degree of dexterity. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in all forms of weather that may be very hot, cold, or wet. Walking, climbing, kneeling, pushing, and lifting will be frequent. Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair principles. Skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Must have good judgement, diplomacy, and tact with the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and customers, remaining helpful and pleasant at all times Must have clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and relay such information. Experience such as the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. This position requires one of the following: ASE certification, ASE certification being obtained within one year of starting date, or a minimum of ten years of related experience. Possession of a valid State of Georgia license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed.- This position is required to respond to after-hours calls in rotation and as needed.
- This is an hourly position at a pay rate of $26.03 and includes competitive benefits including a generous pension plan.
