AMBULANCE REMOUNT SWING TECHNICIAN

Medix Specialty Vehicles | Elkhart, IN | Hourly Position Summary The Ambulance Remount Swing Technician is a versatile, multi-skilled technician responsible for supporting the remounting, refurbishing, and upfitting of ambulance modules onto new chassis. This hands-on position works across multiple areas of the remount process, including mechanical, electrical, fabrication, bodywork, interior installation, and final assembly. The Swing Technician must be comfortable moving between different tasks and work areas based on production needs while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and workmanship. Responsibilities

• Perform ambulance remount activities, including dismounting existing ambulance modules from chassis and supporting the mounting and alignment of modules onto new chassis.
• Disconnect, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and install electrical systems and components, including wiring harnesses, lighting, switch panels, inverters, power distribution, HVAC, sirens, radios, and other emergency vehicle equipment.
• Fabricate, modify, repair, and install brackets, panels, cabinetry, hardware, bumpers, running boards, and other vehicle components using aluminum, steel, composites, and other materials.
• Perform cutting, drilling, soldering, welding, and other fabrication activities as trained and required.
• Install and reinstall interior components, including flooring, cabinetry, upholstery, trim, seating, storage systems, cot mounts, and medical equipment mounts.
• Support bodywork preparation, paint and graphics activities, chassis preparation, and final vehicle assembly.
• Read and interpret work orders, wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, build sheets, and OEM body-builder documentation.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and auxiliary vehicle systems.
• Use hand tools, power tools, saws, fabrication equipment, and other production equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, and issues identified during the remount process.
• Inspect completed work and identify quality or safety concerns before work moves to the next stage of production.
• Work collaboratively with team members and leaders to meet production schedules and resolve technical or production issues.
• Move between work areas and assignments based on production priorities and business needs.
• Support warranty, service, or repair work as assigned.
• Follow all Medix safety, quality, and production procedures and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in automotive, electrical, fabrication, welding, or a related trade preferred.
• Previous experience in ambulance remounting, emergency vehicle upfitting, automotive customization, bodywork, vehicle repair, manufacturing, or other multi-trade vehicle work is preferred.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, saws, and related production equipment; basic fabrication and welding skills preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, work orders, schematics, and detailed work instructions.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to learn and perform multiple functions, adjust priorities, and move between work assignments as production needs change.
• Commitment to safety, quality, dependable attendance, and effective teamwork.

Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, push and pull; work inside, around and underneath vehicles; repeatedly lift and move components weighing 50 pounds or more; and safely use required PPE, tools and production equipment. Required Safety Training Required training will be based on assigned duties and equipment and may include PPE, Hazard Communication, hand and power tool safety, Lockout/Tagout, welding/hot work, ladder/fall protection, and other job-specific safety training.
