Current Enrollment:
You must be a current student in high school or in a college/university interested in pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field. + Able to work up to 19 hours per week during the academic year
  • Job Summary
  • The School‑to‑Work Applied Mechanics Student supports engineering, testing, and technical teams by assisting with mechanical testing, data collection, equipment setup, and basic analysis.
This role is designed for high school, vocational, or early college students to gain hands‑on experience while building foundational skills in applied mechanics, engineering practices, and workplace professionalism.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with mechanical testing activities, including setup, execution, and teardown of test rigs and fixtures.
Support engineers and technicians with data collection, measurements, and documentation. Perform basic calculations and observations related to force, motion, vibration, stress, and mechanical performance Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab and test environment Assist with inspection, calibration, and care of tools and test equipment Follow safety procedures, SOPs, and quality standards at all times Enter test results and observations into logs, spreadsheets, or databases Support troubleshooting efforts by reporting abnormalities or equipment issues. Collaborate with team members and demonstrate professional communication and teamwork

  • Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a school‑to‑work, vocational, technical, or engineering‑related program Basic knowledge or coursework in math, physics, mechanics, or engineering concepts Ability to follow instructions and work safely around mechanical equipment Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. Reliable attendance and positive work attitude.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, or technical trades Familiarity with basic hand tools or measurement tools Basic computer skills (Excel, data entry, or documentation tools)
  • Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform light physical tasks Ability to lift up to 25-35 lbs with assistance or appropriate tools Work in a lab, shop, or test area following all safety guidelines
