Job Description:
The Fiber Optic Engineer supports a major infrastructure project involving the installation of conduit and fiber optic cable along the FML and NHML commuter rail lines. This role is responsible for providing detailed quality control (QC) oversight for fiber optic splicing and testing operations to ensure all work meets project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, dependability, and effective communication skills due to the high visibility and scrutiny surrounding the quality of the work. The Fiber Optic Engineer will work closely with field teams, contractors, and project stakeholders to verify proper installation, testing accuracy, and compliance with project and transit authority standards. The standard work schedule is typically Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; however, additional hours and seven-day workweeks may be required depending on project demands and schedule performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide quality control oversight for fiber optic splicing and testing activities. Inspect and verify fiber optic installations to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Monitor conduit and fiber optic cable installation activities along commuter rail corridors. Review fiber testing results and identify deficiencies or corrective actions required. Coordinate with field crews, contractors, and project management teams to resolve technical and quality-related issues. Ensure adherence to safety regulations, transit authority requirements, and right-of-way procedures. Document inspection findings, testing results, and quality control activities. Support project schedule adherence by identifying risks, delays, or performance concerns related to fiber operations. Maintain clear communication with stakeholders regarding project status and quality concerns.
Required Qualifications :
3-5 years of experience in fiber optic engineering, fiber optic installation, splicing, or testing operations. 3 years of experience performing quality control or inspection activities related to fiber optic infrastructure projects. 3 years of experience reading and interpreting fiber optic test results and installation documentation. Strong attention to detail, dependability, and communication skills. Ability to work extended schedules, including weekends, based on project requirements. Possession of an OSHA 10 certification. Completion of MBTA Right of Way Track Training.
Pay:
$38.00 - $42.00 per hour
