Amazon Robotics (AR) is Amazon's industrial automation and robotics manufacturing arm, producing high-quality robotic systems that power fulfillment and transportation centers across the globe. Our Operations team works closely with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to deliver solutions to our customers. We are seeking a highly motivated Functional Lead to support and guide a team in areas such as functional testing, diagnostics, repair, calibration, and inspection of electro-mechanical systems. The Functional Technician Lead is a hands-on technical leader responsible for coordinating daily functional activities, troubleshooting technical issues, and driving continuous improvement within their area of responsibility. Key job responsibilities
- Lead a team of technicians executing functional testing, diagnostics, repair, and inspection activities in accordance with engineering documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and safety guidelines.
- Act as the primary point of contact for real-time technical issues; perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and escalate when necessary.
- Plan, assign, and prioritize tasks to meet functional testing and repair, MRB goals while ensuring effective shift handoffs and end-of-shift reporting.
- Provide direct coaching and technical training to team members, contributing to onboarding and ongoing skills development. Develop and implement training plans within your department.
- Maintain and update test procedures, troubleshooting guides, and visual work instructions; validate SOP effectiveness and drive updates when deviations are identified.
- Proactively identify and lead technical process improvement initiatives (e.g., 6S, safety, Kaizen), using data collection and root cause analysis to drive results.
- Review team output for quality and adherence to engineering specifications; ensure metrics are met across individual and team performance.
- Facilitate daily stand-up meetings and ensure alignment with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, and operations.
- Foster a culture of safety by modeling best practices, including ESD compliance, proper equipment handling, and escalation of hazards.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), development builds, and functional validation activities within the manufacturing environment.
- Optimize systems to challenge the status quo and build toward the organization's future vision. A day in the life

- Team member development and retention Basic Qualifications
- Experience reviewing and understanding engineering design documents for electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and assembly drawings of products
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
- 4+ years in a manufacturing, test, repair, quality, or engineering technician environment.
- 2+ years in a lead or technical support role guiding functional or technical activities.
- Experience with diagnostic tools and instrumentation used in electro-mechanical environments (e.g., digital multimeters, probes, test equipment). Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or technical certification in manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field.
- Experience supporting functional testing, diagnostics, or reliability validation of hardware systems.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing, 6S, or Kaizen practices.
- Experience facilitating training and contributing to the development of new team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead meetings and coordinate across multiple teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
