Mechanical Test Technician / Mechanical Technician Industrial Testing Laboratory - North Yarmouth, ME $27-$32/hour | Full-Time | Day Shift Yarmouth Research and Technology, LLC is hiring a Mechanical Test Technician / Mechanical Technician to join our industrial testing laboratory in North Yarmouth, Maine. We are an independent mechanical and materials testing laboratory supporting manufacturers in the petroleum, chemical processing, valve, and industrial equipment industries. Since 1992, we have provided third-party fire testing, cryogenic testing, emissions testing, pressure testing, and other specialized testing on valves, gaskets, and mechanical components used worldwide. About the Position This is primarily a hands-on mechanical testing position for someone who enjoys working with tools, mechanical equipment, test fixtures, and solving real-world problems. Our technicians build and modify test setups, install valves and instrumentation, operate test equipment, troubleshoot problems, monitor testing, and maintain laboratory equipment. The job also includes a smaller but important technical/documentation side. Technicians record and compile test data, review results for accuracy, work with spreadsheets and test software, and assist with preparation and review of test reports. The result is a good mix of hands-on work and technical responsibility without spending the entire day at either a workbench or a computer. Previous valve-testing or laboratory experience is not required . We provide extensive training on our specialized equipment, testing procedures, instrumentation, and industry standards. What we do need is someone who already has real hands-on mechanical ability and is comfortable working with tools and equipment. What You'll Do Build, assemble, modify, and disassemble mechanical test setups and fixtures Install and work with valves, fittings, tubing, gauges, regulators, pumps, and instrumentation Perform pressure testing and other mechanical testing on industrial components Operate pumps, valves, instrumentation, and specialized laboratory equipment Troubleshoot leaks, equipment problems, test setup issues, and mechanical failures Monitor tests and accurately record measurements and observations Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on test equipment Collect and compile test data Review test results and documentation for accuracy and completeness Assist with preparation and review of technical test reports Follow ASTM, API, ISO, and customer-specific test procedures Maintain a safe and organized laboratory The Work Environment The work varies depending on the project. Some days may involve building a test setup, installing equipment, troubleshooting leaks, making adjustments, or performing maintenance. Other times you may be monitoring a test, taking measurements, compiling data, reviewing results, or working on test documentation. There is physical and occasionally dirty work involved, including working with tools, industrial equipment, insulation, grease, dust, and hot or cold equipment. However, the position also requires precision, patience, good documentation, and careful attention to test results. This is not a desk job and not a production-line job . It is a technical mechanical position where you are involved in the testing process from setup through completion. Demonstrated experience building, repairing, maintaining, assembling, or troubleshooting mechanical equipment Strong mechanical aptitude and a good understanding of how mechanical components work together Comfort using common hand tools and power tools The ability to recognize mechanical problems and troubleshoot them logically Strong attention to detail and accuracy The ability to follow detailed written procedures Basic comfort with computers, spreadsheets, and technical documentation Good organization and documentation habits The ability to work independently once trained Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic The ability to lift up to 60 lbs when required Experience with valves, pumps, piping, tubing, pressure systems, instrumentation, machining, fabrication, automotive repair, HVAC, industrial maintenance, or mechanical testing can translate well to this position.
