Job Description

ecomaine is seeking a skilled Instrumentation & Controls (I & C) Technician to join our Maintenance team. This high‑level technical role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the instrumentation and control systems that support operations across our waste‑to‑energy facility, single‑sort recycling facility, and landfill. About the Role The I & C Technician ensures the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of plant equipment by working with a wide range of systems, including: Distributed Control System (DCS) Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Thermocouples, RTDs, and industrial transmitters Motor Control Centers (MCCs), transformers, and VFDs Optical measuring devices and sorters Combustion control systems Medium and low voltage motor controls, switchgear, and protective relays This position plays a critical role in supporting daily operations, responding to maintenance needs, and ensuring equipment reliability. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on instrumentation and control systems Troubleshoot, inspect, test, and calibrate equipment Conduct daily CEMS calibration and maintain compliance with State and Federal requirements Install and commission instruments, controls, circuits, and components Maintain accurate maintenance and regulatory records Participate in on‑call rotation and respond to call‑ins as needed Maintain a strong commitment to safety and perform Job Safety Analyses Required Education & Experience High school diploma or trade school equivalent 5+ years of experience in power plant, industrial, or similar maintenance environment Background in industrial electronics, DCS controls, and PLCs Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Valid Maine Class C driver's license and insurable by ecomaine Ability to pass a written skills assessment Must pass a pre‑placement physical and lifting assessment Six‑month probationary period for mutual fit Preferred Controls Engineering degree ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings Proficiency with electro‑pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic equipment Ability to work independently and as part of a team Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying conditions Why ecomaine? Pay:
From $47.61 per hour Expected hours: 36.0 - 48.0 per week
