Chassis Dyno Technician Job Description This role oversees day-to-day chassis dynamometer operations in a clean automotive test lab environment. The technician operates the chassis dyno, drives vehicles during tests, and sets up emissions collection equipment to ensure accurate data collection and reliable test results. The position offers long-term, open-ended work with growing demand and an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a major automotive original equipment manufacturer. Responsibilities Operate the chassis dynamometer safely and consistently during each test shift. Drive vehicles on the chassis dyno according to defined test procedures and safety guidelines. Set up test vehicles on the chassis dyno, including positioning, securing, and preparing them for testing. Attach exhaust collection equipment to vehicles to capture emissions for data collection and analysis. Perform emissions testing and ensure that all test parameters are followed accurately. Support data collection and assist in basic data analysis related to emissions and dyno performance. Monitor test equipment and vehicle behavior during testing and report any issues promptly. Troubleshoot basic issues related to test system instrumentation and vehicle diagnostics. Assist with instrumentation and calibration tasks when needed. Maintain the dyno test area, ensuring it remains clean, organized, and safe. Document test activities, observations, and results clearly and accurately. Collaborate with other test technicians and engineers to support ongoing test programs. Adapt to changing test requirements and priorities while managing multiple tasks. Communicate test status, issues, and results effectively to the broader team. Participate in training and continuous improvement activities related to dyno operations and test procedures. Essential Skills Strong automotive technical aptitude. Strong diagnostic skills related to test system instrumentation and vehicle diagnostics. Experience with emissions testing and emissions data collection. Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of test equipment and vehicle issues during testing. Comfort driving vehicles on a chassis dyno for extended periods. Strong technical writing skills for documenting tests and results. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tests and tasks. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Willingness and ability to make presentations in front of larger groups when required. Motivated self-starter with the ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks. Ability to quickly adjust to changing requirements and test priorities. Customer-focused communication style with an emphasis on service and satisfaction. Flexibility to work 2nd and 3rd shifts and adapt to a flexible work schedule. Work Environment The role is based in a clean lab setting within an automotive test facility focused on chassis dynamometer operations and emissions testing. The technician works hands-on with chassis dynos, emissions collection equipment, and test instrumentation. The position requires flexibility to support 2nd and 3rd shifts, with typical dyno team hours including 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm and 11:00 pm to 7:30 am. Candidates initially train on 1st shift (approximately 7:00 am to 3:30 pm) for 4 to 6 weeks before transitioning to 2nd shift. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork, with opportunities for long-term involvement and increasing workload as test demand grows. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Allen Park, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
