Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) Technician to support vehicle diagnostics, calibration, and emissions validation activities within an automotive environment. This role involves hands-on work with powertrain systems to ensure diagnostic functionality meets regulatory and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Perform OBD diagnostics, testing, and validation on gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles Support emissions and regulatory compliance testing (EPA / CARB standards) Conduct vehicle testing including dynamometer (dyno), road load, and lab testing Analyze diagnostic data using tools such as INCA, CANalyzer, MATLAB, or similar Assist with calibration updates and validation of OBD monitors (misfire, catalyst, EVAP, etc.) Troubleshoot diagnostic issues and identify root causes of faults (DTCs) Support sensor validation and powertrain performance monitoring Maintain accurate documentation of test results, calibration updates, and issues Collaborate with cross-functional teams including calibration, software, and validation engineers Ensure compliance with global OBD regulations and diagnostic requirements Required Qualifications Associate or Bachelor's degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) 2+ years of experience in automotive diagnostics, OBD, or emissions testing Strong understanding of: OBD systems and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) Engine and powertrain systems Emissions control systems Experience with diagnostic tools (INCA, CAN tools, or similar) Ability to read and interpret engineering and test data Preferred Qualifications Experience in an OEM or automotive testing environment Knowledge of dynamometer (dyno) or HIL testing Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or scripting tools Understanding of OBD compliance regulations Experience working with prototype or pre-production vehicles Key Skills Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Data Analysis Calibration Support Attention to Detail Problem-Solving Team Collaboration Powered by JazzHR
