Job Description

FIBER OPTIC TECHNICIAN JOB BRIEF
Reports to the Operations Manager. Does all aspects of fiber optic installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation. Executes field audits to create and provide accurate reporting. Ability to read, understand and proof fiber optic network design maps, prints etc.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall fiber technician responsibilities. Auditing existing cable plant and providing documentation. Installation of optical cable Prepping of fiber cables for splicing in various cases and cabinets (Tyco, Commscope, Coyote) Splicing of fiber cables in fiber panels, splice cases, cabinets and boxes. Testing and troubleshooting of networks Individual will test optical networks utilizing an assortment of test equipment ie. OTDR, power meters, etc. Performs all splicing operations at a critical level with little to no supervision. Inspects new and/or existing cable plant to ID any deviations from standard installation practices. Builds clear and concise maps, matrices, test results, and additional information deemed necessary to adequately satisfy customer request. Recording of as built information and redlines on splicing drawings including handover and sign off photos. Complete and maintain accurate splice records, as-built maps, and other related documentation Ability to work in indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions Willing to Travel Willing to work overtime Demonstrate proficiency in splicing using a fusion splicer. Ability to read and interpret fiber splicing schematics. Other duties as assigned by leadership Maintain and care for all assigned equipment, vehicles and other assets Ensure all work is completed within safety guidelines and company standards
PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience 1 years minimum work experience; high school diploma or equivalent. Excellent Leadership skills Outstanding Communication skills Impressive Problem-Solving skills Ability to work and create documents in Microsoft office, Google Maps and other digital formats. The technician should have an in-depth knowledge of fiber optic OSP construction, installation, and engineering practices Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment while being able to manage multiple concurrent projects. Ability to work independently with little supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift weight up to 75 lbs. Ability to carry and climb a 28' ladder from truck to pole and/or house. Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions and environments. Walking, sitting, kneeling & crouching. Driving.
