Job Description

Position:
Paint Automation Supervisor Position Type :
Direct Hire Location:
Ionia, MI Shift:
1st Shift (7:00 AM-4:00 PM, Monday-Friday; 45-hour work week with occasional emergency or off-shift support)
Compensation:
$100,000 - $120,000
Position Overview:
Seeking a Paint Automation Supervisor to oversee paint automation operations at an established Tier 1 automotive manufacturing facility. This position will oversee and monitor three paint booths, support ABB robot programming and troubleshooting, plan and execute preventative maintenance, manage parts ordering and inventory, and supervise and develop a team of three Automation Technicians.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and monitor three paint booths: Prime, Base, and Clear, and monitor the paint line as it runs.
  • Support approximately 10 paint robots and overall paint automation system performance, reliability, and uptime.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and support ABB robotic systems, including writing programs and understanding how to move and position robots.
  • Utilize ABB software and IPS for robot programming and automation support.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance activities, including PMs on paint robots.
  • Identify maintenance needs and coordinate repairs to keep the paint line operating efficiently.
  • Order parts and manage parts inventory.
  • Supervise, develop, and provide technical guidance to three Automation Technicians who monitor the paint booths.
  • Select tools, equipment, and technologies for use in operations and projects.
  • Develop technical methods and processes.
  • Test the performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and integrated systems and equipment.
  • Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to technical personnel.
  • Conduct studies to determine the feasibility, costs, or performance benefits of new equipment.
  • Document design and operational test results and provide engineering reports as needed.
  • Research, select, and apply sensors, communication technologies, and control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, and electronic communication.
  • Identify and select materials appropriate for system designs.
  • Apply automated solutions to the transfer of materials, components, and finished goods.
  • Support the paint process for front and rear all-metal components using 1K component paint.
Position Requirements:
  • University Degree in Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of relevant ABB robotics experience required.
  • Strong ABB robot programming and troubleshooting experience required.
  • Paint manufacturing experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with ABB software and IPS.
  • Preventative maintenance experience, including PMs on robots.
  • Experience working in a paint automation environment preferred.
  • 10+ years of paint automation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with PFMEA techniques.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience participating in a product development team from inception to manufacturing launch, including application of DFM/A.
  • Knowledge and execution experience of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow.
  • Proven ability to create and execute project plans that achieve identified targets.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to produce succinct reports/presentations to communicate the status of assigned projects/tasks.
  • Strong leadership abilities and the ability to lead effective meetings.
  • Quality Control background, including problem solving and root cause analysis, would be beneficial.
  • Strong hands-on technical background with logical deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multitasking, use of timelines, and time management techniques.
  • Interest in developing technical skills through both internal and external training
