Job Description

Biomed Electronics Technician I - Saginaw Midland, Michigan Biomedical Services 8AM - 4:30PM (Flexible) Regular Full-Time Day Shift Biomedical Services 45084 Job Description Summary Under the guidance and supervision of an experienced BMET or Supervisor performs routine tasks including inspection, installation, repairs, troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating clinical and non-clinical patient equipment. Responsibilities (40%)
  • Under general supervision performs evaluation, coordination and execution of corrective and preventive maintenance on assigned clinical and non-clinical patient equipment and other duties as assigned including travel to other locations for support. (40%)
  • Spends time with assigned mentors and supervisor and learns administrative and technical duties of the job. Spends time independently to read and learn the various equipment required to perform the duties of the job. (20%)
  • Interacts daily with assigned departmental units and communicates with Supervisor for assignments.
Communicates daily with mentor and other Biomedical Technicians as necessary. Attends and participates in all departmental activities.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibits a basic understanding and can communicate the use of devices supported. Provides essential technical support of assigned equipment and duties. Familiarity and minimal experience of the supported operations and clinical environment. Demonstrates a basic understanding of the clinical equipment, laboratory, and networked medical systems supported and ability to communicate service issues. Able to solve fundamental front-line customer service issues. Assists with project support as required. Builds business rapport with clinical customers and other support departments by rounding and communicating effectively as required. Makes recommendations for departmental improvements to Supervisor and leadership as appropriate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS
Must have 0-3 years of related experience. Related certifications and licensures are preferred. Possesses fundamental understanding and skills using; bare hands, power tools, test equipment including electrical safety analyzer. Has a basic understanding and complies with all local and national safety regulations for JCAHO, Rural Health Compliance, HIPAA, and all others as necessary. Ability to perform administrative duties of the job. Shows initiative to receive cross-training, continuing education, inservices on new equipment along with equipment seminars, and manufacturer schools. Demonstrates analytical skills including written and verbal communication. Ability to handle on-call as assigned. Receives cross-training for expanded back-up support. Basic understanding of the departmental Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and recording work in that system per department processes and policies.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
