Job Description:
The Fiber Splicing Technician is responsible for the installation, preparation, splicing, testing, and repair of fiber optic cable systems supporting telecommunications and broadband network infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in maintaining network reliability and ensuring high-quality fiber connectivity for residential, commercial, and enterprise customers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in both aerial and underground fiber environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform fusion splicing and termination of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground applications Read and interpret network designs, splice diagrams, and construction prints Prepare and install fiber optic enclosures, splice cases, cabinets, and distribution panels Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify fiber integrity and performance Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber optic cables and network outages Document splice results, testing data, and as-built information accurately Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer specifications Operate company vehicles, trailers, bucket trucks, and fiber splicing equipment safely Maintain tools, equipment, and company property in good working condition Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA standards, and traffic control requirements Travel to various job sites within the service area as required
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience preferred Experience with single-mode and multi-mode fiber networks Proficiency using fusion splicers, OTDRs, and fiber testing equipment Ability to read and understand fiber route maps and splice schematics Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in telecommunications, broadband, or ISP environments CDL license or ability to obtain one Knowledge of aerial, underground, and inside plant construction methods OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Fiber optic certifications (FOA, Corning, EXFO, etc.) preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of fiber optic network infrastructure Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong organizational and time management skills Effective communication and teamwork abilities Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
