Job Description The Equipment Repair Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory and testing equipment used in automotive and materials testing environments. This role ensures that all equipment operates safely, accurately, and efficiently to support testing operations and minimize downtime. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. They are well-organized, able to manage their time effectively, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. The role requires clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as the physical ability to lift and move equipment components weighing up to 75 lbs. Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repair Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair environmental test equipment, including: Multi-stage refrigeration, heating and humidity systems Electrodynamic and hydraulic vibration shakers Thermal and thermal/humidity chambers Combined vibration/thermal systems Shock tables, slip tables, and amplifiers Cascade refrigeration systems Perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and reliability. Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Installation & Commissioning Assist with installation, relocation, and commissioning of new and existing test systems. Verify proper mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control system setup. Perform functional testing and operational checks after installation or repair. Electrical, Mechanical & Control Systems Troubleshoot electrical systems including power distribution, control wiring, sensors, heaters, and safety interlocks. Diagnose mechanical issues such as bearings, actuators, seals, fans, compressors, and hydraulic components. Support control systems, PLCs, HMI interfaces, and environmental controllers (as applicable). Calibration & Compliance Support Support calibration activities by verifying system performance, sensor accuracy, and operational stability. Assist with documentation for audits, certifications, and compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, MIL-STD). Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and repair documentation. Safety & Customer Support Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices. Communicate clearly with engineers, operators, and customers regarding equipment condition and required repairs. Provide technical guidance and basic training to operators when needed Technical Background Required Skills Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems Ability to read and interpret Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and Mechanical drawings and service manuals Proficiency using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, clamp meters, pressure gauges, and hand tools Basic understanding of multi-stage refrigeration systems (compressors, refrigerants, expansion devices and Vibration and dynamic testing principles Temperature and humidity control concepts Good written and verbal communication skills Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required EPA Section 608 Technician Certification is required Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, electromechanical technology, HVAC, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred 3-5 years of hands-on experience maintaining or repairing industrial, laboratory, or test equipment Willingness to work in laboratory or manufacturing Valid driver's license (if travel or field service is required) Preferred Experience Experience with specific environmental test equipment manufacturers (e.g., Thermotron, ESPEC, Cincinnati Sub-Zero) Experience with electrodynamic shaker amplifiers and cooling systems, hydraulic vibration systems and power units and environmental chamber refrigeration troubleshooting Familiarity with data acquisition, vibration controllers, and environmental control software Experience working in
ISO 9001, ISO/IEC
