Job Description

Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan. Overview The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for supporting structural testing in automotive labs, including setting up, executing tests, and maintaining test hardware. The role involves working in various labs supporting vehicle and component testing to meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Responsibilities Build, set up, and execute vehicle, subsystem, and component structural tests using lab rigs and fixtures. Support durability, development, and problem-solving tests to assist with vehicle development and warranty investigations. Design, fabricate, modify, and maintain fixtures, brackets, and special test hardware. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot hydraulic and electro-mechanical test systems, including live data collection and trend monitoring. Follow procedures and standard work to ensure high-quality, traceable test results. Communicate test status, issues, and results to engineers and stakeholders. Participate in cross-training on priority skills like regulatory testing, instrumentation support, and hydraulics. Qualifications Associate's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Engineering Technology, or related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience in test labs, fabrication, or automotive service. At least 1-2 years of experience in fabrication and/or test labs. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, test instructions, and basic electrical/hydraulic schematics. Proficiency with standard shop tools, fabrication equipment (mills, lathes, welders, saws), and safe operation of machine tools. Ability to perform hands-on work involving disassembly, reassembly, and use of tools such as drills and band saws. Ability to learn the client systems and familiarity with computers. Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education. Preferred Qualifications Experience in vehicle/structural testing, closures, chassis, or durability labs. Hands-on experience with servo-hydraulic systems, multi-axis rigs, or environmental chambers. Current or prior
HV 2V/2B
certification and familiarity with diagnostic concepts. Prior experience with regulatory test programs or audit support. We thank all applicants for their interest.
