ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Fiber Supervisor at xAI's Memphis data center, you will lead and oversee all fiber optic infrastructure activities, driving the successful execution of large-scale installations, maintenance, and optimization projects. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership to manage teams of technicians, ensure the highest standards of safety and quality, and maintain the ultra-reliable high-speed connectivity that powers xAI's AI training and operations. Working closely with Foremen, Project Managers, and Superintendents, you'll play a critical role in building and sustaining the robust network backbone essential to accelerating human scientific discovery through
AI. RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Lead Fiber Technicians and Fiber Technicians in all datacenter fiber optic installation, maintenance, and repair activities Oversee all phases of fiber optic projects from planning and execution to testing, handover, and documentation Ensure a safe, productive, high-quality, and compliant work environment for the entire fiber team Develop and implement sensor indicators, inspection protocols, and preventive maintenance routines Direct complex troubleshooting, repair, splicing, and installation of fiber optics systems Manage the inspection, replacement, and optimization of fiber optic cables and infrastructure Monitor signal strength, system performance, and resolve fiber optic problem areas proactively Maintain accurate system records, documentation, as-built drawings, and design updates Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other trades to coordinate cross-functional work Provide technical guidance, training, performance feedback, and quality assurance across all fiber-related work
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of direct data center experience installing, certifying, and maintaining optical fiber in large-scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities 1+ years of experience leading or supervising fiber optic teams in a commercial/data center environment High school diploma or equivalency certificate
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation (FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) Advanced expertise in fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and certification procedures Strong leadership and people-management experience in fast-paced construction or data center environments Deep technical knowledge of hyperscale data center networking, structured cabling, and fiber infrastructure Experience in AI/HPC data centers or other mission-critical facilities Proficiency with computers, fiber management software, and electronic testing systems Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in tight quarters with necessary physical dexterity Ability to lift up to 35lbs, unassisted Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear Comfortable working in environments with high noise levels Available to work evenings and weekends as needed; schedule flexibility is required xAI is an equal opportunity employer.
