Overview Join our dynamic team as a Fiber Optic Technician and play a vital role in building and maintaining high-speed telecommunications networks. This energetic role involves installing, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems to ensure reliable connectivity for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. Duties Install and maintain fiber optic cables in outdoor environments, adhering to safety standards such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Operate heavy equipment including bucket trucks and power tools to facilitate cable installation and repairs Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify network performance and troubleshoot issues effectively Perform telecommunications cable splicing and fiber splicing to establish seamless optical connections Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately execute installations and repairs Conduct telecommunications outside plant operations, including cable pulling, trenching, and conduit placement Test fiber optic networks using specialized equipment to ensure optimal signal quality and network integrity Requirements Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor work environments with fiber optic systems installation or maintenance Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks safely and efficiently Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and telecommunications testing devices for troubleshooting and installation tasks Knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure including LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and technical troubleshooting procedures Strong understanding of fiber optic cables, cabling techniques, fiber splicing, and network testing standards Excellent climbing skills with outdoor work experience required; ability to work at heights safely using climbing gear if necessary Commitment to safety protocols aligned with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and industry best practices Technical proficiency in computer networking concepts related to IT infrastructure support for telecommunication systems Embark on a rewarding career where your technical expertise helps connect communities through cutting-edge fiber optic technology.
