Job Description

Job Summary LH3M is assembling a small experimental team to develop a cryogenic collector for lunar gases. Initial tests use controlled loads of standard helium and measure capture and recovered gas. We seek a skilled technician who enjoys building scientific apparatus, solving practical problems and producing dependable experimental records. You will assemble, maintain and operate vacuum, gas-handling and cryogenic test equipment alongside the research and cryogenic engineers. This role combines careful mechanical and electrical work with disciplined test execution and day-to-day laboratory readiness. Responsibilities Build vacuum and gas plumbing, mechanical fixtures, electrical wiring, sensor assemblies and instrument connections from drawings and instructions. Perform leak checks, instrument checks and routine maintenance; identify faults and assist engineers with repairs and modifications. Support cooldowns, controlled gas admission, regeneration and recovery tests after training and authorization. Record operating conditions, observations, hardware changes and deviations; preserve sample and data identification. Maintain tools, spare parts and consumables, coordinate practical fabrication needs, and help improve assembly and operating procedures. Required experience Technical training, an associate degree, or equivalent practical experience in scientific instrumentation or electromechanical equipment. Several years of skilled equipment assembly, maintenance or laboratory work, with evidence of independent troubleshooting. Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, use precision hand tools and test instruments, and make reliable electrical connections. Careful documentation, safe working practices, and willingness to follow procedures while raising unexpected conditions promptly. Preferred experience Vacuum fittings and seals, helium leak detection, compressed-gas equipment, cryogenic systems, soldering, basic machining and automated data collection. Cryogenic expertise can be developed with training where strong vacuum and instrumentation skills are already present. What success looks like Reliable assembly and test execution, well-maintained equipment and complete records that allow the team to reproduce experiments and diagnose failures. Provide a résumé and examples of equipment you have built, maintained or operated. Describe your role in troubleshooting a difficult fault.
