Job Description
Job Summary The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician in the Oil & Gas Industry is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, electrical systems, and control equipment used in oil and gas production, processing, and transmission facilities. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of critical systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLCs and SCADA systems, while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards. Duties Install, maintain, and repair electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation, as well as electrical systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, relays, VFDs, PLCs, RTUs, and EFMs. Calibrate instrumentation equipment (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, and level devices) to ensure precision and reliability. Perform periodic system tests and diagnostics to verify operational integrity. Diagnose and resolve issues with instrumentation, control circuits, and electrical systems to minimize downtime. Use diagnostic tools like multimeters, calibrators, and loop testers to identify and fix faults. Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot SCADA and DCS systems to ensure efficient data collection and process control. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and repairs. Prepare technical reports and update maintenance management systems. Work with engineers, operations teams, and other technicians to support project implementation, system upgrades, and process improvements. Provide technical guidance to junior technicians. Assist in new construction, system upgrades, and equipment installations, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards. Qualifications & Skills Associate degree or technical certificate in instrumentation, electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field. Equivalent military training or relevant work experience may be considered. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in instrumentation and electrical work, preferably in the oil and gas industry. Experience with industrial automa on and control systems is highly valued. Preferred certifications include Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), HAZOP, H2S Alive, First Aid, or OSHA compliance training. Electrical licenses or Industrial Instrumentation Technician (IIT) designations are a plus. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA, and DCS systems (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Yokogawa). Familiarity with calibration tools (e.g., multimeters, loop testers) and industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC, NFPA). Understanding of electrical systems (e.g., 480 VAC, motors, control circuits) and hazardous area equipment.
