Job Description
Express Employment Professionals is seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to support new product development, manufacturing operations, testing, validation, prototype development, and continuous improvement initiatives with one of our client companies. This position is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in maintenance, construction, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, manufacturing, testing, or engineering support roles who enjoy solving technical problems and working across multiple disciplines. This position is temporary! As an Engineering Technician, you will work closely with engineers, production teams, quality personnel, suppliers, and fellow technicians to support the development and improvement of innovative electro-mechanical products. This role combines mechanical troubleshooting, electrical support, CAD documentation, prototype assembly, testing, validation, and technical documentation in a collaborative engineering environment. What You'll Do Engineering & Documentation Support Create, revise, and maintain detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D assembly models using engineering sketches, redlines, released designs, and engineering direction. Support engineering, manufacturing, quality, validation, and production teams with project documentation, reports, bills of material (BOMs), engineering change activities, and controlled documents. Assist in developing, refining, and executing test procedures, assembly instructions, setup guides, training materials, and work instructions. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate technical observations, test results, and recommendations. Prototype Development & Troubleshooting Assemble, modify, troubleshoot, repair, and rework prototypes and development products. Support mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical product development activities. Coordinate prototype builds, sample tracking, and engineering inventory. Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause investigation of product and process issues. Testing & Validation Execute firmware flashing procedures using proprietary and commercial software utilities. Conduct functional testing and diagnostic evaluations on electro-mechanical assemblies. Assist engineers with testing activities, data collection, reporting, fixture setup, and equipment preparation. Support validation programs and product development testing. Technical Equipment & Laboratory Support Operate and maintain engineering lab equipment, including: Multimeters Oscilloscopes Power supplies Data acquisition systems Engineering test instrumentation Required Qualifications Associate degree in a technical discipline and at least 1 year of related experience OR High School Diploma/GED and 3+ years of relevant technical experience. Experience in engineering support, manufacturing support, quality, testing, prototyping, maintenance, troubleshooting, technical documentation, or related technical fields. Working knowledge of CAD software (such as Creo, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, etc.) and the ability to create or revise manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation. Strong mechanical aptitude with developing electrical troubleshooting skills. Ability to follow procedures, organize technical information, document work, and communicate results clearly. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document management tools. Strong teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience building and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems, actuators, valves, controls, harnesses, or related products. Familiarity with engineering test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and data acquisition systems. Experience using firmware flashing, calibration, diagnostic, or programming utility tools. Exposure to product development, prototype builds, validation testing, engineering change processes, or manufacturing launches.
