Comstock Metals is seeking a PLC Programming Technician / Industrial Controls Technician to support the technology behind its operations. This hands-on role will program, integrate, troubleshoot, and commission PLCs, HMIs, and process control systems while partnering with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to bring new equipment and control systems to life safely and reliably.

Your Responsibilities:

Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC programs, primarily using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms, along with HMI applications and operator interfaces. Integrate new equipment and control panels into existing plant systems, including I/O configuration, network architecture, and device-level communications. Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and field commissioning, including logic, interlock, alarm, safety, I/O, sequence, and start-up testing. Troubleshoot control system faults, instrumentation issues, and equipment downtime while calibrating and maintaining field instrumentation and associated wiring. Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control documentation while maintaining accurate as-built drawings, program documentation, backups, and version control. Partner with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to develop control solutions, optimize processes, resolve equipment issues, and provide technical guidance and training. Support control system hardware selection and procurement while ensuring all work complies with NFPA 70E, NEC, Company safety procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements; travel as needed for FAT and commissioning activities. Minimize unplanned control-system-related downtime. First-pass success rate on factory acceptance testing (FAT). On-time completion of field commissioning milestones. Accuracy and completeness of control system documentation and as-built drawings. Ensure regulatory and electrical safety compliance is maintained on all control system work. Preempt potential control system issues through proactive monitoring and preventive maintenance. Optimize control system and process operating efficiency.

Qualifications & Competencies:

Demonstrated experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLC systems, including Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, or RSLogix 500; 2+ years required, 5+ years preferred. Experience with

HMI/SCADA

software, industrial networking, process controls, instrumentation, PID control, analog/digital I/O, and signal conditioning required. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control panel drawings, with experience supporting FAT and field commissioning of industrial equipment required. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control system issues under production time pressure required. Knowledge of electrical safety practices, including NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout procedures, along with organized documentation, program version control, and as-built drawing updates required. Associate degree or technical certification in electrical/instrumentation technology, industrial controls, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after training and willingness to travel for field commissioning and FAT support required.
