Responsibilities:
Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and structured cabling systems Install single-mode and multi-mode fiber in commercial, telecom, data center, and OSP environments Perform OSP fiber installation through aerial and underground pathways, conduit, innerduct, handholes, vaults, and exterior routes Pull, route, dress, and secure fiber through conduit, cable trays, ladder racks, J-hooks, and innerduct Terminate fiber using LC, SC, ST, and MPO/MTP connectors Perform fusion and mechanical splicing and install splice trays, enclosures, patch panels, and LIUs/ODFs Test and certify fiber using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, VFLs, and other testing equipment Interpret test results and troubleshoot high loss, breaks, damaged connectors, and poor splices Install and test Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A structured cabling as required Rack and stack network switches, servers, fiber panels, and telecommunications equipment Read blueprints, fiber route drawings, floor plans, and network diagrams Accurately label and document fiber routes, splice locations, test results, panels, and equipment Maintain proper bend radius, pulling tension, slack storage, and pathway requirements Work independently or assist with leading small crews based on experience
Requirements:
2+ years of commercial low-voltage, telecommunications, or fiber experience Strong hands-on experience with fiber installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting OSP fiber experience strongly preferred, including aerial or underground installation Experience with single-mode and multi-mode fiber Experience using OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, and other fiber testing equipment Experience with LC, SC, ST, and MPO/MTP connectors Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6A structured cabling experience preferred Ability to read blueprints, fiber plans, and network diagrams BICSI, FOA/CFOT, OSHA, or Lift certifications are a plus Must have basic hand tools, required PPE, and reliable transportation Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, at heights, and on construction or OSP sites Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a crew Why Work with Next Level Technician in Great Neck, NY?
