Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Automation Field Service Technician to provide on-site support for industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong PLC programming expertise, IT/OT networking skills, and electrical maintenance experience to troubleshoot, install, and maintain integrated automation and process control systems across various client facilities. Industries includeEnergy & Utilities, Water/Wastewater, Industrial HVAC, Central Utility Plants, Process Refrigeration Roles and Responsibilities:
PLC/SCADA
Programming & Debugging:
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs using platforms such as Codesys , Rockwell Automation, Schneider, or others. SCADA platforms such as Iconics, Indusoft/Aveva Edge, Wonderware, Intellution, or others Validate and verify automation code to ensure system performance and reliability. Collaborate with engineering teams to implement control strategies and improve system functionality.Electrical Maintenance & Installation:
Perform routine inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and sensing components and control panels. Install and commission new automation hardware including PLCs, I/O modules, HMIs, MCCs, VFDs, and Instrumentation [Analytical, Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature, etc.] Ensure electrical safety standards and adherence to codes during maintenance and installation.IT/OT Networking & Communication:
Configure and troubleshoot industrial networks such as OPC/UA, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, Profibus, and MQTT. Integrate automation systems with enterprise IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless communication between devices. Maintain our cybersecurity best practices for industrial networks.On-Site Support & Customer Service:
Travel to client sites to support startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of automation systems. Provide technical guidance and training to client personnel as needed. Document service actions, system configurations, and repair activities comprehensively.System Testing & Validation:
Perform functional testing of automation systems pre and post-installation or modification. Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing[FAT] protocol prior to release for field installation/testing [SAT]. Conduct performance analysis and suggest improvements to optimize operational efficiency.Continuous Improvement & Documentation:
Keep up-to-date with new automation technologies, network protocols, and industry standards. Create and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, program backups, and maintenance records.Qualifications & Skills:
Proven experience working as a PLC / Automation Field Service Technician. Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Codesys based, Rockwell Automation Logix, Schneider Unity). Solid understanding of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, MQTT, Modbus, etc.). Electrical troubleshooting and maintenance skills, including control panel wiring and hardware diagnostics, Instrument calibration and configuration. Knowledge of IT/OT integration, cybersecurity, and data communication standards. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic environments. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites. Adheres to process and quality controls processes A basic understanding of NEC code and UL508A requirements Provide project leadership on difficult applications and solutions Excellent performance in stressful environment Education and/or Experience - AAS degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and three years or more related experienceJob Type:
