Job Description

Fiber Preparation & Splicing Prepare fiber optic cables for splicing (loose tube, ribbon, or single fiber) Perform fusion splicing using appropriate splicing equipment Install splice protection sleeves and secure fibers in closures or panels Maintain low splice loss and high-quality workmanship Perform Fusions splicing and mechanical splicing on single mode and multi-mode FO Cables Experience with ribbon fiber and high-volume splicing Ability to interpret splicing plans, OTDR traces, and fiber characterization data Operate and maintain fusions splicing equipment from major OEMs (e.g., Fujikura, Fitel, Corning) Organize and manage splicing files and documentation via software systems Cable Management & Installation Route, organize, and secure fiber cables within trays, racks, and enclosures Maintain proper bend radius and cable handling practices Assist with installation of fiber enclosures, patch panels, and hardware Experience with the handling and dress of large fiber count cables into cabinets, MDF locations Understanding of various splice cases and vaults Furcation Ability to understand cable counts and binders from one connection to another Ability to explain furcation Able to read and understand cut sheets Testing & Troubleshooting Perform basic testing such as continuity checks (VFL/Red Light) Assist with advanced testing (OTDR, OLTS) if needed. Understanding of link loss principles Identify and troubleshoot fiber issues, including breaks and high loss Locate and repair cable faults to sustain existing cable network without causing signal disruptions Labeling & Documentation Label cables, fibers, and equipment per project standards Maintain accurate records of splicing activities Support as-built documentation and reporting Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures and site requirements Handle fiber and tools safely to prevent damage or injury Maintain a clean and organized work area Ability to conduct JHA, safe housekeeping, and clean site awareness Required Skills & Experience Experience in fiber optic splicing (fusion splicing preferred) Basic understanding of fiber optic networks and cable types Ability to operate fusion splicers, cleavers, and hand tools Knowledge of fiber color codes and standard practices Experience using equipment such as VFL, OTDRs, and power meters Knowledge of industry standards and regulations Ability to work independently and as part of a team Willingness to work overtime and travel if needed Experience Level 2-5+ years of fiber optic splicing experience Experience in telecom, outside plant (OSP), or data center environments preferred Certification

$25.00 - $35.00 per hour
