Key Responsibilities & Technical Requirements (focus on highlighted yellow more)
Fiber Circuit Troubleshooting:
Perform end-to-end troubleshooting of fiber-optic circuits in hyperscale data center environments, identifying connectivity failures, excessive optical loss, and physical layer issues.
Circuit Information Review:
Review and interpret A-to-Z circuit information, circuit IDs, fiber routing diagrams, port assignments, connectivity maps, and as-built documentation to understand and validate circuit paths.
OTDR Testing & Analysis:
Demonstrate hands-on proficiency with Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), including trace interpretation, event analysis, fault localization, and identification of fiber breaks, high-loss events, and reflection issues.
VFL & Optical Power Testing:
Proficiently operate Visual Fault Locators (VFL), optical light sources, power meters, and Optical Loss Test Sets (OLTS) to verify continuity, measure insertion loss, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Trouble Ticket Management:
Independently review, investigate, update, and resolve assigned trouble tickets, documenting diagnostic findings, corrective actions, test results, and resolution details through ticket closure.
Perform inter-building, intra-building, and intra-campus circuit audits, including physical connectivity verification, port mapping, circuit tracing, loopback testing, and validation against engineering documentation.
Fiber Remediation & Retesting:
Perform approved corrective actions, including fiber inspection, cleaning, repatching, connector and jumper replacement, and coordination of specialized repairs, followed by complete circuit retesting.
Testing Equipment & Technical Expertise:
Demonstrate practical experience with EXFO, VIAVI, Fluke Networks, or equivalent fiber testing equipment, along with strong knowledge of single-mode fiber, LC connectors, MPO/MTP assemblies, patch panels, and optical transceivers.
Demonstrate hands-on proficiency with fiber inspection scopes (fiber microscopes/video inspection probes), OTDR, VFL, optical power meters, and OLTS equipment. Perform microscopic inspection of LC, SC, and MPO/MTP connector end faces to identify contamination, scratches, pits, and physical damage. Follow
IEC 61300-3-35
inspection criteria, perform proper fiber cleaning and reinspection, and document inspection results. Experience with EXFO, VIAVI, Fluke Networks, or equivalent testing and inspection equipment is preferred.
Documentation, QA/QC & Communication:
Maintain accurate test records, OTDR traces, optical loss measurements, troubleshooting reports, and ticket updates while coordinating with project managers, network engineers, and field teams to meet customer acceptance requirements.
Critical Requirement:
Candidates must have proven hands-on experience in fiber troubleshooting, circuit analysis, and ticket resolution. Technicians with only basic cable pulling, installation, or routine pass/fail testing experience will not meet this position's requirements.
