We regularly hire Automation and Instrumentation & Controls (I& C) specialists to support SCADA and automation projects for public, private, and federal clients. This is a general application posting for ongoing and upcoming opportunities. Resumes are reviewed regularly, and qualified candidates will be contacted as needs arise. An Automation Specialist at
CDM Smith:
  • Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices. Assists with specification development. Creates basic to moderately complex human-machine interface (HMI) graphics, programmable logic controller programming (PLC), report development, etc. Assists with testing and startup of control systems.
  • Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings, contractor clarifications. Assist with testing oversight.
  • Creating basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P& IDs), control system architectures, specifications, and control descriptions (for use in control system programming).
  • Leads staff and provides direction and mentoring for junior staff. Reviews the work of junior staff as necessary.
  • Under general supervision, assists in the preparation proposal sections and presentations, as directed. Supports marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy. May participate in proposals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Regular Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5 years of related experience.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Water/Wastewater highly preferred.
  • Experience within an Engineering and/or an integration firm highly preferred.
