Alamon, Inc. seeks a Lead Fiber Characterization Technician for its Network Services department.
This position entails:
Testing fiber spans between customer sites under the guidance of the field supervisor. The Lead Fiber Characterization Technician will be responsible for cleaning and inspecting fiber as well as if needed splicing on new connectors. The Lead Fiber Characterization Technician will need to be able to identify out-of-spec splice points and re-splice them should a customer ask. Alamon Job Description:
Run the following Fiber Characterization tests. Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) Chromatic Dispersion (CD) Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) Optical Return and Power Loss (using OLTS) Maintain tools assigned to the job as well as monitor tool calibration requirements. Identify out-of-spec splice points and jumpers. Work with customers should they want them fixed and re-spliced. Splice new connectors onto old fiber connectors. Scope and clean fibers to ensure they are clean. Run fiber jumpers between panels. Keep accurate detailed notes. Document Fiber Panels Meet or exceed customer and internal documented acceptable levels of quality. Work with supervisor for scheduling and updates. Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all tasks are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications. Field train and control/oversee the work of other technicians when necessary. Complete daily production reports, keep track of work hours. Frequently work independently. Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check and clean vehicle. Perform other splicing related duties as assigned. Assist other departments should they need it. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Must be willing to travel. This job requires 95% traveling position. Experience with OTDR and Fusion Splice Machine Self-motivated. High-quality workmanship oriented. Must be able to distinguish colors. Must be at least 21 years of age to drive a company vehicle. Must pass the pre-employment screening process which includes a background check, drug test and motor vehicle records pull. Possess a current and valid driver's license and a clean driving record with no DUI / DWIs within the past 5 years. Willing to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as required. Be available to work nights and weekends as required by project demands.
Work Environment:
May be subject to noise levels which may range from low volume to loud. Indoor and outdoor work will be based off the scope of the contract. Exposure to dust, odors, gases, vapors, varying noise levels, and wet or slick surfaces may be possible. When appropriate, wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Company standards and governmental regulations. This position may require working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and terrain; may work for long periods in hot, cold, wet, windy, or icy conditions.
Physical Demands:
Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at a time. Must be able to ride in a vehicle for extended periods of time to travel to and from job sites. Ability to work in different temperatures and through changing weather conditions. Must be able to traverse all areas of the Jobsite. This may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, kneeling, or stretching. Ability to clearly distinguish colors, shades, and brightness when working with multi-colored cablings such as twisted pair copper and fiber optic cable. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and use practical judgment while working through job assignments. Ability to work at heights, handle ladders, along with pushing and pulling equipment.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires extensive travel. Lodging is provided while working and traveling for the Company.
Education and Experience:
Highschool Diploma or GED preferred Extensive understanding of hand tools, test equipment, and ability to use a computer to interface with customer products. Communicate effectively, including proficiency in written and verbal communications, with strong listening skills. Possess excellent time-management skills and multitasking abilities. Be proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications: Email, Excel, Word, OneDrive.
