Marine Electronics Technicians Job Summary :

Under limited supervision, Marine Electronics Technicians (METs) install, service, and repair marine electronic equipment such has radars, radios, sonars, autopilots, sonars, etc. on-board commercial ships. To test, adjust, and troubleshoot components, and antennas as well as loading, updating, and modifying software. METs utilize their knowledge of electronic theory and circuitry to address a variety of technical problems and make intelligent use of complex schematics, blueprints, and manuals to accurately achieve assignments. Upon completion of the service work, METs will compose a detailed service report.

Types of equipment serviced:

Radars ECDIS Satcoms HF and VHF Radios GPS Gyro compasses Autopilots Sounders Sonars Marine Service Engineer Requirements 3+ years of MET, ET, or AT experience in commercial shipping and/or acquired in the Navy, Coast Guard, or Marines. Associate degree or equivalent technical training and experience. Strong knowledge of electronics theory and application. Valid FCC General License with Radar Endorsement and GMDSS Radio Operator Maintainer License preferred. Be physically fit. Work environment often involves carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders and masts, and exposure to weather. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a thorough background check.
