Job Title:
Instrumentation Technician Job Description As an Instrumentation Technician, you will diagnose and repair complex control system malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of various electronic or digital control systems. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing control hardware, including controllers, relays, measurement devices, and actuators. Responsibilities Assist staff in the design and development of products, systems, processes, and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely with customer specifications. Involve third-party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process as required. Support the Application Engineer in electrical engineering, primarily during the design and development stages. Communicate with personnel daily to review production and quality metrics and discuss any issues or concerns from the previous day. Calibrate Inspection, Measurement, and Test Equipment (IM & TE) to ensure compliance with published specifications in various disciplines such as electrical, dimensional, optical, physical/mechanical, and chemical. Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration. Identify IM & TE out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions, including adjustments, component replacement, and correction factors. Identify and correct measurement errors as applicable. Prepare calibration reports and certificates. Assist with onsite electrical work, including troubleshooting, repair, and installation, as needed. Prepare and submit required condition reports, including conditions found, electrical/dimensional measurements with comparisons to tolerances, results of tests, sketches, recommended repairs, recommended process improvements, and any other pertinent data. Essential Skills Expertise in programmable logic controller (PLC) programming, troubleshooting, and design. Proficiency in electrical maintenance. Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technical studies, completion of a military technical school, or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of controls experience in programming development, start-up, and commissioning of complex systems such as central plants, air handling units, and evaporative cooling/humidification systems. Knowledgeable in basic electronics and computers. Experience in instrumentation, calibration, development, troubleshooting, electrical, and metrology. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to travel 30-60% of the time, including potential international travel. Strong teamwork capabilities. Work Environment This is an onsite position with a Monday to Friday schedule from 8 AM to 5 PM. The role requires 30-40% travel, with the potential for international travel. The work environment is described as a great place to work with a supportive team and opportunities to contribute to building a new German services line of business. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
