Job Title:
Electronics Technician Job Description This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic security and access entry equipment for commercial customers. You will work with a wide range of alarm, CCTV, and access control platforms, using diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve issues. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide professional, customer-focused service while working on-site at client facilities. Responsibilities Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic security and access entry equipment for commercial businesses. Service and support all major alarm, CCTV, and access control platforms to ensure reliable operation and system performance. Install and terminate cabling for security systems, including wiring for card readers, door contacts, strikes, intrusion detection devices, CCTV cameras, access control systems, and magnetic locks. Mount and configure security equipment such as cameras, card readers, control panels, door hardware, and related components according to specifications and best practices. Cut in and install electronic strikes and other door hardware, ensuring proper alignment, secure mounting, and reliable operation. Install and configure electronic security equipment, including CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control panel systems, and related devices. Use diagnostic equipment, software tools, and established troubleshooting techniques to isolate equipment failures and resolve performance issues. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical specifications to guide installation, maintenance, and repair work. Apply knowledge of basic electrical principles and low-voltage systems to safely install, test, and troubleshoot electronic security equipment. Perform mechanical assembly and adjustments related to security hardware, door components, and mounting systems as needed. Document work performed, including installations, repairs, and configuration changes, in a clear and accurate manner. Communicate effectively with customers on-site, providing professional customer service and explaining work performed or issues identified. Collaborate with other technicians, contractors, and business personnel while working in and around customer facilities. Use computers, various software applications, and diagnostic systems to configure, test, and monitor electronic security systems. Maintain and use personal basic tools and equipment in a safe and organized manner. Operate a vehicle safely and in compliance with all regulations to travel to and from customer locations. Essential Skills Proven experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic security and access entry equipment. Hands-on experience with alarm systems, CCTV systems, and access control platforms in commercial environments. Proficiency in installing cabling for security systems, including card readers, door contacts, strikes, intrusion detection devices, CCTV equipment, access control systems, and magnetic locks. Demonstrated ability to cut in and install electronic strikes and related door hardware. Experience installing and working on magnetic locks and associated low-voltage wiring. Strong troubleshooting skills for electronic security equipment, including the use of diagnostic equipment and software. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical specifications. Knowledge of basic electrical principles and low-voltage troubleshooting techniques. DCJS certification, as required for electronic security work. Good computer skills and experience working with various software and diagnostic systems. Mechanical aptitude for assembly and installation of security hardware and components. Ability to provide professional customer service and work comfortably in active business environments. Possession of a valid driver's license. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with a wide range of electronic security equipment, including CCTV, alarm systems, and access control panel systems. Familiarity with intrusion detection systems and related hardware. Comfort working both independently and as part of a team in customer facilities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to following established procedures and safety practices. Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple service calls or projects. Ownership and regular use of basic hand tools and test equipment appropriate for electronic security work. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position follows a regular daytime schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an hour for lunch and some flexibility when needed. The role is primarily field-based, working on-site at commercial customer locations such as offices, retail spaces, and other business facilities. You will work with a variety of electronic security technologies, including alarm panels, CCTV systems, access control systems, magnetic locks, and associated low-voltage wiring, using diagnostic equipment, software tools, and computers to configure and troubleshoot systems. The work involves both indoor and occasional outdoor tasks, mechanical assembly, and use of hand and power tools. Emergency or on-call/after-hours work is not required under normal conditions, although it may become a possibility in the future as needs evolve. Dress is expected to be professional and appropriate for customer-facing technical work in business environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midlothian, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
