POSITION SUMMARY
The Controls Engineering Manager will provide essential leadership in power and control systems, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and technician development to meet or exceed reliability goals at the plant in Mccalla, AL. This role will focus on optimizing systems, ensuring compliance, promoting personnel safety, and enhancing technician skills in relation to plant electrical power and process control systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as a primary administrator and troubleshooter for plant power and control systems Contributes to developing and implementing power and control standards for all projects and upgrades Leads the implementation of the site masterplan for power and controls systems, including equipment replacement planning Establishes and maintains a system for the skill development of plant Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) technicians Supervises Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) technicians and provides daily guidance Ensures compliance with local and national electrical codes and safety regulations Validates MES data from PLCs and supports process engineers in data analysis Assists in designing and implementing machine control and process automation applications Collaborates with engineering and operations to identify and eliminate losses in safety, quality, reliability, and cost Handles key elements of systems related to power and control systems and ensures compliance Works with engineering and operations leaders on selection, installation, and start-up of new equipment Provides power and controls engineering support for capital initiatives Offers support throughout the plant as needed on a daily basis Applies control, simulation, and process modeling technologies to improve process and packaging operations
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required; Electrical engineering degree is preferred Experience 5 years of relevant controls experience is required Manufacturing experience is preferred Mechanical and electrical experience in food manufacturing is preferred Other Ability to work and manage within a team environment Strong knowledge of machine and/or process control hardware, instrumentation, and software Working knowledge of NFPA and OSHA guidelines related to electrical equipment Proficiency in plant historian Experience with plant systems software Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Effective communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications Excellent interpersonal skills Willingness to work off-shifts or weekends as needed Experience leading, teaching, or managing others effectively Some travel required Able to perform moderate physical activity
