- Berkeley, CA Contract
- 3 months A Controls Engineer, Test Infrastructure job opportunity is open with our client in Berkeley, CA.
Job Duties:
- ideal candidate is comfortable working across controls, electrical design, automation, and safety systems, and enjoys collaborating closely with test engineers, technicians, and product teams to translate test requirements into robust hardware and software solutions.
- This role includes both new system development and sustaining engineering for existing lab infrastructure.
- Own the electrical and controls systems used in test equipment for battery cell and module testing.
- Design, develop, and maintain PLC-based control systems, primarily using CODESYS and
IEC 61131-3
programming languages (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram).- Implement and maintain code for industrial controllers, PLCs, and data acquisition systems used in automated test equipment.
- Develop control logic for automated test sequences, interlocks, alarms, and safety systems.
- Maintain and refactor existing control software to improve reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Integrate PLC systems with higher-level test software and data acquisition platforms.
- Design and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts for test equipment.
- Specify and integrate sensors, instrumentation, power electronics, and safety components required for product testing.
- Support control panel builds and electrical integration with technicians and external vendors.
- Maintain electrical documentation including schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and revision control. Knowledge/Skills/Education/Experience
- Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience developing PLC-based control systems for automated equipment or test infrastructure.
- Experience programming PLCs using CODESYS and
IEC 61131-3
languages (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram).- Experience designing electrical schematics and industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and automation systems in a lab or industrial environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
