Are you a Digital Design Specialist who wants to own complex digital hardware cradle-to-grave, rather than owning one small piece of the design? Do you want to work in an industry-leading Ex-SpaceX startup? (Current valuation: $4.3-billion) . We are exclusively hiring for a Senior Electrical Engineer (Digital) for Impulse Space in Redondo Beach, CA. The role is offering full ownership of the high-speed digital architecture behind next generation spacecraft radio systems . This is a genuinely end-to-end hardware design role . Starting with a clean-sheet requirement, you will determine how the digital system should be architected, select the FPGA/SoC, memory and supporting components, define interfaces and connectivity, develop the schematics, and drive the detailed PCB design and high-speed layout. As the Senior Electrical Engineer, your responsibilities will include: Owning the digital hardware architecture from initial concept through flight-ready hardware Select and integrate FPGA/SoC devices, external memory, high-speed converters, PHYs, clocks, power devices and supporting digital components Own schematic capture and detailed PCB implementation for dense, high-speed multilayer circuit boards Solve complex BGA breakout, high-speed routing, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI and board-level integration challenges Define requirements and constraints for interfaces including DDR, SERDES, PCIe, Ethernet and high-speed ADC/DAC connectivity Perform hands-on board bring-up, lab debugging and hardware validation , using oscilloscopes and other test equipment to diagnose issues within complex digital systems Carry your designs through prototype, integration, qualification and production , rather than handing them to another team after the design phase Collaborate closely with RF, FPGA/software, power, mechanical, thermal and manufacturing engineers to develop complete spacecraft radio systems Help define the architecture and technology roadmap for future generations of increasingly high-speed spacecraft communications hardware Space or radio experience is not essential. Impulse is primarily looking for exceptional high-speed digital hardware engineers who have owned complex board-level systems. Relevant experience could come from spacecraft, defense, robotics, automotive, computing, networking, communications or advanced semiconductor evaluation/reference hardware. If you are a Digital Design Specialist seeking broader technical responsibility, greater influence and significantly more end-to-end ownership while developing cutting-edge hardware that will operate in space, apply today!
