Job Description

Position Summary Phillip Cable Manufacturing is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, manufacturing, and testing of custom electrical cable assemblies and wire harnesses for defense, aerospace, and industrial customers. This position requires strong electrical engineering knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to turn customer requirements into accurate drawings, material specifications, and production instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Design Review customer drawings, specifications, and contract requirements to determine electrical and manufacturing requirements. Develop and revise wiring diagrams, schematics, cable assembly drawings, pinout tables, and bills of materials (BOMs). Select appropriate wire, cable, connectors, contacts, backshells, shielding, and other components based on electrical performance and application requirements. Evaluate wire gauge, current capacity, voltage drop, insulation, grounding, shielding, and electromagnetic interference considerations. Identify drawing discrepancies, missing information, and technical risks; coordinate clarification with customers and internal teams. Production & Technical Support Provide technical support to Production, Quality, Procurement, and Warehouse teams. Develop clear assembly instructions, termination requirements, and electrical test procedures. Troubleshoot wiring errors, continuity failures, shorts, intermittent connections, and other electrical defects. Recommend corrective actions to improve assembly quality, manufacturing efficiency, and repeatability. Support component substitutions and alternate sourcing by evaluating technical compatibility and obtaining required approvals. Testing & Quality Define electrical acceptance criteria and support continuity, insulation resistance, and dielectric withstand testing as applicable. Review test results and investigate failures to determine root causes. Support first article inspections and customer technical reviews. Apply relevant customer requirements, military specifications, and workmanship standards, including
IPC/WHMA-A-620
where required. Work with Quality to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions. Documentation & Change Control Maintain accurate engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and revision records. Prepare and review engineering change documentation. Verify that approved engineering changes are reflected in production documents and material requirements. Use ERP/MRP systems to support accurate engineering and manufacturing data. Communicate technical information clearly to engineering and nonengineering personnel. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field. At least 3 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in manufacturing, cable assemblies, wire harnesses, or electrical interconnect systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications. Understanding of wire and cable selection, connector systems, grounding, shielding, and electrical testing. Experience creating or reviewing engineering drawings and BOMs using CAD or electrical design software. Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work effectively across departments. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting defense or aerospace manufacturing. Familiarity with military wire and connector specifications, including MIL-DTL and SAE AS requirements. Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and
IPC J-STD-001.
Experience with automated cable testers and electrical test equipment. Familiarity with AS9100 or
ISO 9001
quality systems. Experience with MISys or another manufacturing ERP/MRP system. Success in This Role The successful candidate will deliver accurate engineering documentation, resolve technical issues promptly, reduce preventable assembly and testing errors, and help production complete customer orders correctly and on schedule.
