Job SummaryEquinix is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support the reliable operation, capacity growth, and continuous improvement of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role is focused on operational support, design reviews, and the development of business cases for capacity and efficiency projects, operating at the intersection of engineering, construction, and operations to ensure best-in-class performance, scalability, and safety across our facilities.

You will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, reviewing designs against company and industry standards, justifying investment through feasibility studies and business cases, resolving complex operational issues, and influencing engineering standards. You will mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement across regional and global initiatives.

ResponsibilitiesDesign Review and Project DeliveryReview project designs, including drawings, specifications, and equipment shop drawings, to ensure alignment with industry standards and Equinix objectivesOversee project construction to ensure adherence to design intent, schedule, and quality standardsSupport commissioning activities, ensuring equipment qualification and documentation accuracy throughout the project lifecycleProvide technical leadership across concurrent initiatives, balancing performance, quality, cost, and timeline expectationsPartner cross-functionally with design, construction, and operations teams to deliver scalable solutionsOperational Support & ReliabilitySupport data center operations as a subject matter expert for electrical systems, conducting root cause analysis on incidents and non-routine failuresAudit existing facilities to ensure compliance with company standards and service-level agreementsAssess and qualify pre-selected facilities against pre-contract requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop contract requirementsCollaborate with regional and global teams to address site incidents and improve processes.

Engineering Standards & Continuous ImprovementContribute to the development and enhancement of engineering standards, policies, and procedureDrive adoption of best practices across projects, operations, and vendor executionParticipate in design reviews, commissioning processes, and engineering summitsIdentify opportunities for system-level improvements and future-proofing infrastructure Vendor & Stakeholder ManagementLead and coordinate external partners, including contractors, consultants, and equipment vendorsEnsure effective contract management, including scope, cost control, and change ordersCollaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including regional leadership and global engineering teamsCommunicate clearly with senior stakeholders using structured reporting and executive-level updatesSafety & ComplianceChampion a culture of safety and operational excellenceEnsure adherence to all safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and regulatory complianceEvaluate and enforce safe working practices across teams and vendorsCoaching & Capability BuildingMentor and support the development of junior engineers and team membersDeliver technical training and share expertise across teamsContribute to building organizational capability through knowledge sharing and technical leadershipQualificationsExperienceTypically, 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally within data centers or mission-critical environmentsProven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects from design to implementationDemonstrated experience developing business cases, feasibility studies, or capacity/efficiency analyses to support investment decisions.

Experience reviewing engineering designs, drawings, and specifications against standards.

Experience working across global or highly cross-functional teams
Knowledge of:
Power distribution systems, UPS and backup systems, Electrical design and commissioningStrong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilitiesFamiliarity with industry standards and best practices for mission-critical facilitiesDemonstrated ability to lead projects and influence without direct authorityThe targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

  • 162,000 CAD / AnnualOur pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.
The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
