Engineer III Market Design

(k) United States, Indiana, Carmel Jun 15, 2026 Description MISO is looking for a talented Engineer to join our Market Design team and contribute to shaping the future of the energy industry. In this role, you'll conduct engineering and economic studies to evaluate the performance, efficiency, and behavior of wholesale electricity markets. Your work will support the assessment of market structures, operational events, and rule impacts-ultimately helping to evolve MISO's market design and ensure a reliable, competitive, and efficient energy marketplace. Through in-depth analysis and collaborative problem-solving, you'll influence system improvements, develop market design initiatives, and clearly communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and external market participants. What You'll Do Perform statistical, economic, and engineering analyses related to system and market operations, participant behavior, pricing outcomes, supply-demand imbalances, market anomalies, and overall market design. Assess market competitiveness, efficiency, and operational effectiveness. Develop, evaluate, and support enhancements to wholesale electricity market design initiatives, including assessing impacts to market structure driven by industry evolution and emerging market needs. Analyze market models, tools, and algorithms to identify opportunities for improvement in accuracy, efficiency, performance, and market outcomes. Assess MISO market systems for compliance with tariff requirements and recommend enhancements to systems, processes, and tariff language to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness. Maintain a strong understanding of market rules, tariff provisions, and business practices to support ongoing compliance and market integrity. Conduct studies and simulations of electricity market clearing models, algorithms, and power market operations to identify anomalous, inefficient, or unintended market outcomes related to pricing signals, competition, reliability, and cost causation. Perform post-implementation and after-the-fact analyses of new market products, rule changes, and significant operational events to evaluate effectiveness and market impact. Evaluate the performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of MISO market and operational rules, processes, and systems, and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology. A minimum of three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Energy market forecasting and analysis Power system analysis and operations, including related software development Statistical and econometric analysis Market design Optimization algorithms
Preferred:
Master's degree in a relevant discipline. Additional experience in: Power system analysis and operations with related software development Statistical and econometric modeling Market design and analysis Optimization algorithm development Applied econometrics Industry experience with a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or RTO market participant. Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge. The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $106,000-$131,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience. Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met.
