Job Description

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER II
, Kavli Institute , seeks an Electrical Engineer to assist in the design, layout, fabrication, testing, operations, and maintenance of astrophysics research instrumentation and related ground support equipment for ground- and space-based observatories and associated technology development. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and research scientists, daily tasks may range from technical documentation review and generation; vendor selection, communication, and part procurement; circuit board design and layout; soldering and assembly; firmware programming; troubleshooting of boards and related hardware; verification testing; field installation and commissioning; and long-term maintenance and operations support. A successful candidate will have the ability to work independently for engineering tasks and within a multidisciplinary, multicultural team for project support, alongside an eagerness for continuous learning and development of new skills.
REQUIRED
: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; five years of experience in a relevant field; experience with independent design and layout, simulation, and implementation of analog, digital, and power system electronics, including use of schematic design and layout software; demonstrated skill in complex circuit board and electronic system testing and troubleshooting ability to develop technical requirements, read data sheets, select components, and identify potential vendors for parts acquisition; strong communication skills; ability to travel domestically and internationally; and ability to appropriately handle sensitive information using discretion and individual judgement. 6/18/2026
