Job Description

PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide needed expertise and support to the Operations and Engineering Departments.
Areas of concentration will be:
To monitor the APC electrical system, over current protection, device coordination, and plan and oversee the design of needed maintenance and upgrades; to monitor the system loading and make recommendations for equipment upgrades and replacements; to develop the design, implementation, and oversight of preventive maintenance programs for the transmission and distribution systems; system modeling of the transmission and distribution systems; to provide assistance to the Vice President as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
  • Participate in the management of the Operations Dept. as a member of the Line Operations Team
  • To develop and maintain design standards and written procedures for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems
  • To assist in the development and maintenance of a preventative maintenance program for the transmission & distribution system
  • Monitor the transmission and distribution systems over current protection and coordination, including planning, purchasing of equipment, and directing installations.
  • Monitor the transmission and distribution system loading, plan for future needs, purchase equipment and oversee its design
  • Maintain the Electrical System Drawings
  • Manage system model, mapping, outage management system, and reliability reporting
  • Maintain equipment files, maintenance record system and equipment risk list
  • Conduct system studies as needed
  • Perform, as well as direct, switching procedures on transmission and distribution lines and substations for load transfer, line isolation and for service restoration in both planned and emergency situations
  • Be on a rotating Supervisory Call to assist Line crews, to perform switching for line isolation and load transfer, to patrol lines, to perform substation inspections, and for service restoration and system normalization after storms and outages
  • Manage customer interconnections and pole attachments to the electrical distribution system
  • Plan, implement & follow-up on any special studies/projects as directed by the President or Vice President To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the SCADA system
  • Assist in the development, operation, and maintenance of the meter testing program and records reporting
  • Assist in the coordination with the Metering, Engineering and Accounting Departments in data collection of purchased power, transmission and distribution loads, and distribution totals and submit reports
  • Assist the Line Department in all areas
  • Attend essential meetings (Safety, Departmental, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as requested
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required in one of the following: Electrical Systems, Electrical Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
  • Previous utility experience extremely helpful
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public
  • Ability to provide leadership to other employees
  • Ability to treat information confidentially
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
