Controls Retrofit Engineer II TGW Systems Inc - 3.6 Grand Rapids, MI Job Details 3 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Computer literacy Full Job Description The Controls Retrofit Engineer II is responsible for leading medium complexity retrofit engineering projects including control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, and robotics programming, and providing site start-up support of material-handling equipment and automation equipment for the material handling, manufacturing, and logistics industries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as subject matter expert on retrofit control systems and electrical engineering principles and provides advanced knowledge and guidance to colleagues as needed. Provides control systems design technical leadership in a matrixed environment, ensuring ontime schedule, performance, project milestones, customer deliverables, and compliance with regulations and standards. Applies electrical engineering principles to analyze, propose, design, program, test and troubleshoot control systems associated within complex material handling systems. Reviews contract documentation and customer specifications and creates equipment specifications and detailed design documentation for the development of appropriate control solutions. Supports realization team on project installation, commissioning and testing of control systems, traveling frequently as required. Develops technical documentation including control system specifications and engineering procedures and assists with creation of user manuals. Frequently interacts with customers and suppliers. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
Minimum of six (6) years of controls engineering experience, preferably in a materialhandling, industrial, or manufacturing environment. Several years of retrofit experience preferred.
Travel:
30 - 40% of travel as required. Skills & Abilities Advanced PLC ladder logic and programming and proficiency in Siemens, Rockwell and Allen Bradley PLCs. Advanced understanding of fieldbus systems and I/O equipment, e.g., Profibus, Profinet, ASi, TCP/IP. Advanced understanding of other controls automation-related equipment, e.g. Bar code scanners, HMIs, Variable frequency drives. Knowledgeable on AC drives, both open & closed loop. Experience in Ethernet IP network design and machine safety a plus. Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel. Excellent documentation and technical writing for product manuals, work instructions, and troubleshooting. Physical Requirements Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time. Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment. Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time. Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis. Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
