Electrical Design Engineer Job Description This role focuses on designing and coordinating electrical systems for industrial, commercial, and emerging sectors such as specialized manufacturing facilities. The Electrical Design Engineer develops power distribution and low-voltage infrastructure, produces detailed drawings and calculations, and supports projects from initial field surveys through construction. Responsibilities Design power distribution systems, including development of riser diagrams and panel schedules. Develop low-voltage infrastructure designs for information technology and security systems. Create lighting designs, including fixture selection, lighting controls, and performing lighting calculations. Design and coordinate low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, security, and control systems. Calculate electrical loads, fault current, and voltage drop to ensure safe and efficient system performance. Prepare detailed electrical drawings and documentation using Revit and related design tools. Perform field surveys to verify existing conditions and gather data needed for design. Provide construction phase support, including responding to requests for information, reviewing submittals, and assisting with field issues. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical designs with mechanical, plumbing, and architectural systems. Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and standard industry design practices to all project work. Participate in project meetings and communicate design intent and technical information clearly to stakeholders. Essential Skills Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) certification. Minimum of 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering or electrical design. Hands-on experience in power distribution system design, including riser diagrams and panel schedules. Experience designing low-voltage systems, including fire alarm, security, and controls. Experience with low-voltage infrastructure design for IT and security systems. Proficiency in Revit for electrical design and documentation. Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard industry design practices. Ability to perform electrical load calculations, fault current calculations, and voltage drop calculations. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation. Ability to perform field surveys and translate field data into accurate design documents. Effective communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and external partners. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on industrial and commercial MEP projects. Familiarity with electrical design for specialized facilities such as manufacturing and grow houses. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small to medium-sized firm environment. Comfort working in a flexible, non-corporate culture that emphasizes collaboration and personality fit. Work Environment The role is based in a small to medium-sized MEP firm of approximately 25 employees, located in Raytown. The environment is intentionally anti-corporate, with a relaxed, friendly culture that emphasizes personality, collaboration, and work-life balance. The team operates in a flexible setting where engineers work closely together on industrial, commercial, and specialized manufacturing projects, including emerging sectors such as grow houses. You will use Revit and other industry-standard tools daily to produce electrical designs and documentation. Work hours and arrangements are designed to be flexible while maintaining a strong commitment to project quality and client service. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raytown, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $48.00/hr.
