Job Description
Hendrick Technical Solutions Location:
4400 Papa Joe Hendrick Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262 Hendrick Technical Solutions is a dynamic and growing force within the defense industry. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge Unmanned Vehicles (UxVs) and next-generation electro-mechanical equipment. This role operates within a fast-paced, mission-critical environment, focusing on challenging and impactful projects that directly enhance national security. This engineer will be part of a collaborative team, working to redefine the future of defense robotics. This unique environment combines the agility and innovation typical of a startup with the stability, proven culture, and established resources of Hendrick. What You'll Do:
Design & Development Support:
Design, develop, and integrate robust electro-mechanical and electrical subsystems for our UxV platforms and robotic prototypes. Embedded & Control Support:
Develop, implement, and refine embedded/control logic for electrical subsystems and robotic behavior. Electrical Systems:
Confidently perform end-to-end electrical design: translate problems into electrical requirements, design and iterate PCBAs, source components, manage fabrication/assembly, and validate performance. Work collaboratively with the team to integrate, support, and sustain electrical subsystems in the field. Rapid Integration & Turnaround:
Execute fast-turnaround integration projects—bringing up new capabilities quickly, iterating with urgency, and delivering dependable results under aggressive timelines. Test & Documentation:
Support subsystem verification through clear test plans, data capture, and repeatable procedures. Produce high-quality electrical documentation. System Operations:
Maintain clean electrical design data and revisions (BOMs, build notes, test results, and configuration records) and collaborate in shared repositories/tools (e.g., Git) as needed to support integration and sustainment. Field Support & Travel:
Provide critical technical support and perform field repairs. Confidently diagnose issues in the field, clearly communicate information to end-users (non-experts), and determine solution paths. Represent Hendrick at customer demos, industry trade shows, and technical meetings/calls. Problem Solving & Refinement:
Apply a thorough approach to identify and solve complex technical challenges, continuously seeking ways to refine and improve products beyond initial specifications. Entrepreneurial Mindset:
Embrace an entrepreneurial environment, demonstrating adaptability, calmness under pressure, and a willingness to commit to long work weeks, when necessary, balanced with flexibility for downtime. Understands the intersection of business development and engineering. Design and fabricate electrical harnesses to meet electronic system functional and operational needs. Inspect and functional check (Hi-Pot test, bench check and continuity check/ring out) harnesses from a Quality Control standpoint. Incorporate robust ground and shield methodologies and physical strategies to reduce/eliminate system wiring to the adverse effects of operating within an EMI environment. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, robotics, or a closely related technical field. 2-4 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, focusing on mechatronic hardware and software integration. Exceptional candidates with less experience will also be considered. Experience with embedded systems development (microcontrollers) and comfort working alongside robotics software stacks using practical tools such as Python and C++. Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering, including circuit-level design and troubleshooting, schematic capture and review, PCBA design, component selection/sourcing, microcontroller integration, power management and harnesses. Demonstrated ability to own a PCBA from concept to fielded hardware. Proven experience designing mobile power solutions, specifically integrating prime movers (generators), energy storage (batteries), and high-efficiency power electronics/inverters. Comfortable using common lab equipment and methods to support debug and validation. Working knowledge of Git for version control and comfort operating in a Linux environment in support of embedded/robotics development and field diagnostics. Highly independent performer capable of defining technical roadmaps and managing personal deadlines from concept to delivery. Confident and articulate communicator for internal discussions and external presentations. Ability to represent Hendrick well in all interactions. Very thorough in approach, consistently finding ways to refine products. Genuinely interested in learning and contributing to defense robotics. Consistently produces high-quality, professional written work. Understanding of how startups/entrepreneurs operate, including dedication for long work weeks balanced with flexibility for downtime. A team player. Must work well with teammates shoulder-to-shoulder daily, collaborating and forming strong internal relationships. Leverages strong team culture to overcome obstacles and succeed. Demonstrates exceptional calmness under pressure. This role subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements and as such, U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or U.S. Person Status Required. Bonus Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of CAN bus systems. EMI/EMC-aware design and practical noise mitigation in high-power systems. Experience integrating batteries and charging systems. Strong understanding of networking concepts in a robotics context, including IP layers. Prior experience in the defense industry or with military robotics. Proven track record in developing robotic systems in a high-reliability industry. This role subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements and as such, U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or U.S. Person Status Required.
