Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Electrical Systems Instructor is responsible for teaching and mentoring students in areas such as AC/DC theory, wiring practices, electrical system design, and application of the National Electrical Code. This role provides hands-on instruction that prepares students for careers as apprentices, trainees, and skilled professionals in a wide range of electrical fields. The instructor supports diverse program pathways including degree, diploma, and certificate options in areas such as basic wiring, programmable logic controllers, industrial controls, and photovoltaic systems. Click here to learn more about our Electrical Program Teach assigned courses and labs through lecture and demonstration; prepare lesson plans, syllabi, instructional materials, labs, and projects; evaluate textbooks and develop new courses as needed. Maintain safe and clean learning environments; procure, maintain, and repair equipment; prepare and grade assignments; conduct critiques and track student progress. Complete required reports and forms (attendance, grades, evaluations, 20% reports, etc.); maintain accurate records and files. Recruit, advise, and counsel students; assist with registration, co-op placements, career guidance, and graduation activities; complete student-related forms. Stay current in the field through professional organizations, journals, conferences, and seminars. Participate in committees, departmental planning, curriculum development, and program reviews; assist part-time instructors and cover classes as needed. Supervise work-study students; maintain effective communication within the department and across campus. Operate and maintain instructional/technical equipment; respond to inquiries; perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Electrical and Electronics Technology field Three (3) to five (5) years of experience OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree
North Carolina Electrical License Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in a classroom or laboratory setting equipped with standard instructional technology. The position involves frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff and includes the use of online instructional platforms. Occasional travel may be required for professional development, off-campus instruction, or college events. Regular exposure to heat, noise, dust, machinery, chemicals, and electrical equipment. Appropriate PPE required in all lab areas.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position: Occasionally sits for extended periods while performing administrative and instructional duties. Frequently stands, walks, and moves between offices, classrooms, and campus locations. Uses hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups. Occasionally lifts and/or moves items such as instructional materials, office supplies, or equipment (generally up to 50 pounds). May need to reach, bend, stoop, or kneel to access files, equipment, or classroom materials. Visual ability to read documents, review data, and operate computer systems. Ability to travel between campus locations or external sites as needed.
Normal Working Hours:
This is a 9-month position; Teaching responsibilities may include daytime, evening, hybrid, and online classes as assigned to meet departmental needs. Office hours are required for student advising, course prep, committee participation, etc. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for outreach activities, program support or professional development.
